And Zac Efron's name is surfacing with it... NOOOOO

Quote
Mandalay Pictures has acquired theatrical rights to and will develop a big-screen version of "Full Metal Panic," a Japanese manga series that blends action, comedy and high school romance, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The property derives from writer Shoji Gatoh's series about a teenage anti-terrorist commando named Sousuke Sagara who is given the mission to protect a high-school girl with mystical powers.

"Panic," which is set in a world almost exclusively without adults, is known for mixing visceral action with wry comedy.

Zac Efron's name has surfaced in connection with "Panic," with the actor holding a conversation on the project, adds the trade. He's also potentially attached to the Warner Bros. adventure Jonny Quest.

I know... Oh well, can't say I'm a big fan of the franchise, but damn, that's a bad choice for that role...

God I wish they would just leave us alone. Then again, it takes some failures to learn how to do something right. Unless you're a horror movie maker. There is no right.

yeah, at the moment that's an exception. hope he does a fine live action (or whatever the current plans were)

maybe I should get a hold of the manga to know why it's so great. just heard from friends that it's awesome.

As much as I like to hope the live action Hollywood versions will actually be good, they just keep failing.  Instead of trying to make a good retelling of the stories, they just mutilate them.  Their casting choices have been ridiculous and the writers should be shot.

Disney actors + Anime = Vomit

I get enough of them when my kids watch tv, which is precisely why I watch anime on my laptop.
Sig removed for being oversized.

I have hopes for the Evangelion live action that's been in pre-production for awhile. They secured financing (to the tune of the lord of the rings budget) for a trilogy.

Quote
Facts

Budget

The movie will have a budget of approximately one hundred million - this is a rough estimate but it gives us the info that this movie will be a blockbuster (hopefully of epic proportions).
“Recent Internet rumors suggest that the Evangelion movie shall have the budget equal to that of a blockbuster, being roughly of 100 million or more. To compare this with other top movies; The Matrix had a $63 million budget and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring had a budget of $109 million. It is unknown where such cash is coming from as the income of Anime does not rival that of Hollywood blockbusters.”

watch the movie/ 2part ova thats out it covers the 2/3 of the first manga books and is most of whats going to be in the movie. They are apparently trying to a trilogy covering the 9 chunks of manga in threes.

And the only reason i have high hopes for it is because of what he did with terminator in the 80s

  • Another fool uses this account D:
For some reason I was thinking of Full Metal Alchemist, then continue on reading it mentioned about comedy and high school romance, immediately there I stopped and went "wut! high school romance in FMA???" then I realised it was FMP...damn those similiar names.

If they want to do some mech type movie they coulda chose something else really, not that I'm a fan of mecha.

if i'm not wrong there has been a h'wood movie named monster but I believe it doesn't have anything to do with anime. IIrc it's based on a true story starring charlize theron (she won the Oscar for starring in that movie)

yea, its not that movie, but i found this on wiki tho, so if its still liable, it should be out some time this year

Live action film

Major Hollywood film studio New Line Cinema has recently acquired rights to create an English language live action film adaptation of the series. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Josh Olson, who is noted for his work on the 2005 American/German crime-thriller film A History of Violence will be writing the screenplay for the project, which the studio expects to be released in 2009

a history of violence was pretty decent, so theres hope atleast

Zac Efron? Seriously? WTF. How the hell is he going to play Sousuke? Reeves as Spike seems genius compared to this.

FMP! is a brilliant series, but I have no intention of ever watching this garbage... unless the person playing Tessa is a babe... then I might reconsider.
