I'm guessing there will be no Garlic.Jr saga, maybe not so many epsiodes will be spent on the Z-fighters training and all the random epsiodes here and there like Goku and Piccollo learning how to drive will most definetly be cut

Seconded. I don't know a single person who has ever thought otherwise. Although for the most part English dubs tend to be lacking, this is not one of those series. It's all about choosing between the lesser of two evils for DBZ.

Well,you're kinda right...I haven't seen Kai,just heard about it and saw the OP,but even in the original DBZ Goku is really annoying,but after 2-3 eps you get used to it and begin to like it,to feel it familiar.
The DBZ eng dubs are one of the best anime eng dubs ever,just like the Pokemon ones(Ash' voice it's high pitch too)

Why doesn't Toriyama just make new episodes? If it's such a massive franchise... why not continue it...

I've pointed out why I prefer the Japanese voice actors in Dragonball versus the american dubs in a few threads.

Don't feel like rehashing it...

Though as far as Akira Toriyama goes, he didn't even really want to make DBZ after DB. He was pressured into it. He did not have any involvement with GT. I doubt he wants to continue it or restart the franchise back up.

Especially when he makes so much bank off of releasing "revamped versions". He's busy with DBO anyways.

Yeah, his plan was to end Dragonball after the cell saga. That's why he was setting up Gohan as Goku's successor from what I've read in interviews.

Dubs are always horrible. The English version did have some decent music though, I'll give it that.

I've only readed the manga, I really liked the first "part" where he's still a kid. Actually stopped reading after that.
I think I'll start following that serie as it's supposed to have much less length than the original and well, why see the worse version if there's option.

just watched dbzr's subs.

subs: well, i do not understand jap so i can't say if the translation's correct but the eng looked solid

ep: too bad, it's just remastered to fit WS and HD. wished it would have been redrawn as well. but it's ok... remembering the good old times^^ it's kinda "mean" to see that the animation style of the OP and ED are drawn like at the end of DBZ and to see that the content is the old style. well, so what?^^

I just saw the first episode of Dragonball Kai.

I must say that im quite glad that the the dubs are redone by the same voiceactors, the reuse of old effects, but added new ones. But i didnt like the new music thou.. I kinda liked the good old japanese soundtrack.. Even if it sounds like an LP player without RIAA

PS: I don't like english dubs, and when i saw DBZ with english dubs for the first time, i died

Personally I am glad they changed to old Japanese soundtrack to make it sound more modern but actually there isn't a great deal of music so far, I hope they use music similiar to that in the dubs.

Hey, driving school was a funny filler episode. What I want to see gone is the combat filler. Battle against Freeza on Namek took 30 episodes. There's at least one episode where they just trade punches and kicks without any actual effect. Goku starts charging the spirit bomb .. 2 episodes later it's ready.
Also, several episodes' worth of constipated screaming ("powering up"). At worst it's something like half an episode of one guy screaming, stuff floating up, reaction shots of people..
Sometimes they at least try to stop the opponent's super attack, why not interrupt their attempt to power up?

It is basically the original film re-scanned. So far, season 1 has fairly low detail pencil work, but, it still is much better than the DVD rez DBZ.

Once the series made more money, starting at season 2 & even more for season 3, expect season 2-3 of Kai-HD to be twice as sharp & expect season 3-4 onward to be immaculate.

As for it being shorter, it could be both a directive decision as well as the availability of quality prints zoomed out, or, in to 16:9. This may also mean some new expanded scenes to left & right of the original where they were able to do so.

I wonder if someone out there will do a fan-dub audio track from the English DVD. It'll probably take a bunch of audio editing, but, it is possibly feasible.

hells yeah they need the american voice actors. some times its hard to take anything seriously because gokus voice is so high.
radditz jap. voice actor sounds pretty cool though. they using the original jap. music too...which also isn't as cool IMO.
i also thought they were gonna re-draw it like most people proly thought too. cus as previously stated the intro and endings are HIGH-RES drawn! only to see it still in old animation mode. to me its kinda like a FAIL ill watch it to see how they re-cut it or what ever because on wikipedia it says they cut out alot of the pointless starring and itll get cut from like 300+ episodes down to around 100+. but thats just a rumor.

Also i liked the original english voice actor for Vegeta when he had a RASPY voice. cus the one after him kinda sounds like piccolo

I think Dragonball Kai is interesting.. much better in action movements and the voices of the characters are more clearer..

...and english dubs sucks.. no offense.. >_> japanese voice actors are more "intimate or rather they putting their best efforts, putting their heart to it" when voice acting, unlike some dubs (not referring to DBZ dubs) that has no feelings at all while dubbing, that i think why japanese voice actors are better, and yes, i understand japanese even though I'm filipino, (i'm not a descendant either) so I knew if the subbers are trolling or not.

Besides, Goku's japanese seiyuu isn't sissy, her voice is just high pitch but not shitty like those manly voices that never put their hearts when dubbing it. Again, just an opinion, we are democratic citizens right? Learn to accept others opinions as much as I understand how others loooooove dubbing...

(somehow SOME non-japanese speakers are just lazy to read the sub or like someone said, they don't understand japanese so they won't know if the subbers are not doing troll subs.. in anycase, don't criticize japanese voice actors/actresses if you don't like them... because not all japanese VA are sissies, english/filipino dubbers are much more sissier than the japanese VA... talking about "tryinghard" much... *facedpalms*

in any case, I hope its true the so-called "no-filler-episode" in KAI... since its just started we wont know if they're telling the truth, ne?

they definitely re-edited certain parts! it hurts when you see them they look different then the original drawings buts its not re-drawn HD it looks like a flash movie er sumthin! check em out!

yeah, it's supposed to be 100 episodes. So one seasons being around 24-26 episodes, it would be 4 seasons. Of course there's an exception as Meitantei Conan (Case Closed) is almost 50 episodes per season or so (which is crazy).

Fillers gone is so refreshing. Goku starts to run on the snake road in Episode 4, by Episode 6 he's already on Kai-oh Sama's "planet." No 5-6 episodes on the snake road from what I remember.

Voice actors, I usually can't watch anything but original soundtrack. I actually learned 3 years of college japanese so I could understand anime and read manga because of it. (back in the 90's when I was a wee lad) Sometimes it's hilarious how bad some subs are. And there's definitely a lack of "strength" in the voice acting department by non-hollywood voice actors. You have to remember that the rest of the world DUBS Hollywood movies more than the US dubs things, so there's a deeper depth of experience in voice acting in the rest of the world than in the US.

One example. If you understand Spanish (I do) try watching Mulan in english, then in Spanish. The voice acting of the spanish cast is just amazing. I didn't notice anything inherently wrong with the US Mulan voice, but once I heard the Spanish acting, the US actress' voice sounded like a 5 out of 10, no emotions at all in her acting.

anyhow. I grew up with Dragon Ball, so I'm used to Goku's weird annoying voice haha.
