Really, Tatsujin? I watched 1 Litre of Tears, and I just couldn't really feel that horribly upset. I feel for the girl, but because I know I won't be able to go through what she did, I couldn't really connect with her as a person on an emotional level of that magnitude. At least with Clannad, Okazaki's and Nagisa's relationship is similiar in alot of ways to my own relationship with my g/f.

The connection is just hard to make with Litre than it was with Clannad. I did, however, look up the disease the girl suffered from after watching the series, and read up a bit about the girl herself. It was emotional, however I couldn't make the connection for some reason.
There's nothing here, because I'm too lazy to put something here.

I haven't seen 1 Litre of Tears, but I will say that Clannad is excellent at conveying emotion to the viewer. Only a few exceptional series have made a connection that strong with me as a viewer. Nothing in all about my life resembles that of Tomoya or any other character in the series, but the connection was still made despite that.

That's your opinion. My opinion views pretty differently. If we push 1 Litre of Tears to the side, there are still few others that do a better job for expressing drama - like Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. I'm not the type that likes miracles and magic happening and Clannad has those for once. Clannad is a really really good show. I've seen it about 5 or 6 times already. I just don't like the "magic" it has for a drama show.

But then again. 1 Litre of Tears is a hell of an awesome show. Nagareboshi is another superb awesome drama show - fucking love Ueto Aya. Taiyou no Uta is another favorite of mine, too. The music and story were really great. It's such a shame these Japanese Dramas weren't adapted into an anime. Those three that I mentioned are above Clannad in my drama collection. I was also planning to re-watch Clannad again ... but well ...

Now if they would make Tomoyo After anime with True Ending as the sad part and Good Ending with
(click to show/hide)
then I'd so watch that a lot.

Clannad lost its drama place for 1 Litre of Tears. As much as Clannad made me tear, 1 Litre of Tears had me going from the first 5 seconds of the first episode all the way to the last episode and for weeks ...

Hmm this makes me both want to watch it, and run away.

I guess its not anime? I see it was a tv drama and a movie..

I did actually find the magic aspect of Clannad to be a nice part. While it isn't the best anime to everyone, it is a good anime to most, not that I particularly speak for most. :P

The best thing about Clannad are four things - The characters (I mean, seriously. Nice tsundere characters, different types) - The Music (big pluses) - The Story (it was done well, but with one digit off ...) - and finally, the Coming of Age. Clannad does a hell of a good job on Coming of Age, viewing Tomoya's life and difficulties, challenges and aspects that awaits him and how he deals with things. I still love Clannad. <3 I have hope for Tomoyo After anime ...  one day it shall come true!

True it is an awesome show when it comes to Coming of Age. Usually you have those high school romance shows that end when school is over with a happy ending, in Clannad we experience something extremely rare in Japanese Anime. An actual continuation of the lives of our friends, the things a youth gets to experience on becoming an adult (I don't mean sex but the real harshness of life), the reality that becomes your own and how hard life can be. At these moments you get to gain a lot of respect to your parents for seeing how well they do their jobs.

Reality sometimes sucks, and yet he was still able to be happy.

You don't get this kind of anime often, not even rarely, it's a super rare kind of show.

You can hate Nagisa all you want, but her contribution to the story drama is unconditionally 100%.
Without her in the show, this would be a typical happy go lucky harem without an ending.

To answer your question, yes. These are Japanese Dramas that don't have manga or anime relations. They're really good and above your average level of drama - Anime has yet to do some touch ups like those I mentioned. There are still more good stuff out there but those three are among my favorite.

Hi, I finished watching both Clannad and Clannad Afterstory, what a ride it was! Anyway, Clannad Afterstory ended for me, regardless of what others say, its closure was pretty good (even if I thought it would end another way)

Thanks for the help!

Oh KEY is famous for forcing a happy ending or should I say the nakige genre in general anyway, basically yes it was just a dream and they all live happily ever after due to alternate universes.

I still stick to Clannad being super over-rated as a VN and an anime. You all are just not trying to find good dramas, instead just spam everywhere that this is hands down the best dramatic anime/visual novel. Not saying I think Clannad is not good, just gets way more praise than it deserves.

Only fantastic thing about Clannad is Tomoya Okazaki. KEY did a superb, wonderful job for everything about him. Coming of age story of the year.

That was just their attempt at adapting the VN's ending. I actually thought the VN's ending was pretty clever in the way it took advantage of the way VNs work, and tried to weave all the different stories together in an (almost) meaningful way. It was fairly clever, even if it was perhaps unnecessary.

That kind of plot device can't work at all in a linear story, like an anime, though, which is why it came across as such an unoriginal "it was all a dream" kind of ending.

If you notice about 2 posts above, I finished Clannad afterstory recently (Manly tears were shed)

After watching school days, I remembered the "Another World Kyou chapter" from after story I missed, so I watched that.

./sigh.

Yeah, I throttled the download last night.

Funnily enough, Clannad only got me close to tears.
Except for the Tomoyo arc. (I wanted him to be with her. She's my favorite.)
I fucking shed the man-tears when they got back together.

At any rate, gonna start Afterstory. Like a man.

So.. What can I say about this anime.

It's the purest anime I have ever seen. It's one of my favorites and it will always be. I'm planning on rewatching it as soon as I find free time.

Clannad is really sad, but ~AS~... I cant explain those emotions. I can't put them into words. I never cried so much in my life tbh. And the thing is I watched it when I reached a crucial point in my life so my feelings were all confused.

(click to show/hide)

In Clannad I really liked Fuuko's arc. And it also made me soooo sad, so much tears. And I didn't like that they neglected her like that, forgot about her and never remembered. She had a big role in getting Tomoya and Nagisa together.

I believe there isn't a single person who didn't shed at least one tear while watching Clannad. If there is, that person is not a human being.

Amen.

Ive seen both series about 4-6 times (Clannad once more than ~AS~), and now they are on the first two positions in my backlog again... maybe I should stop listening to the soundtracks...

Thanks. I usually type very fast and don't double check before posting. So this happens from time to time.

And yes I sincerely believe that those who didn't shed a tear while watching Clannad are not humans but some sort of beasts. Though I have yet to meet such a creature :)

I do know a few that said they didn't cry. Do I believe that... no. I know I cried happy tears at the end of Clannad and then more tears of sadness in AS.
