Shangri-la, First impression.
« on: April 08, 2009, 07:05:06 PM »
Shangri La has aired 5th april and the first episode is already subbed. I watched it and my first impression is that this may have caught my attention. Of course as most anime out there this one has it's own weirdness in form of a drag queen and a fat drag king. Still the plot seems intruiging and I hate myself for discovering it now, when only 1 ep. is released.

Has anyone else watched it? What do you think about it?
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Raw baby, Raw! Actually, I couldn't find a raw at the time, the only torrent I could find with a decent amount of seeders was horriblesubs. So I watched that. No comment.

I have Shangri-la listed as shows I recommend this spring along with Saki and K-On.
I said it seemed hyped before the get-go, but it seemed like it might deserved. It's based on a novel so I doubt it will take a turn in the crazy direction.

It's gonna be the only series (so far) that I plan on following as it's released. Very intriguing story... all the rest are like, "seen that already... next." The characters are awesome. The first episode was a bit discombobulated, but I liked it. Looks to be a pretty deep story.

I'm expecting a lot from this as well, but I haven't watched it yet.

First episode felt far too rushed, they introduced too many characters and had not one, but two exposition scenes... I'll still give it the 4 ep treatment, but I now have higher hopes for Eden of the East than this.

I don't know what I should compare to... do you compare to manga, or just the feeling? Personally I noticed that many first episodes contain much more information then the rest. For example we have Wolf's rain and GTO. Heh, some even start in the middle of the story like Gungrave. Anyway, I guess I am trying to say that I wish all episodes were as fast paced as this one.

After watching the first episode again... I've decided that it is damn good. Confusing or not, it got even better the second time around. And I'm in love with the opening, it's soooo sweet.

I gave AoT a try. It was pretty good, but too literal for me. I think I'll stick with HorribleSubs.

Thank you for informing us of a subgroup that doesn't suck. I think I will stick with AoT myself.

Anyway only a few days before we get the second one!

Episode 2 was a bit of a letdown considering how the first ended. More was explained... but a lot more questions were opened up. This series has soooo much potential, hope they don't blow it.

Gimme ep 3! I need more!

after i saw this on anime-planet, i thought that this can be really great series. but i like to ask what subgroup is doing best job now. i'm looking for reasonably fast release but also decent quality (something in the middle, compromise).

edit: i've searched through different groups. and desire appealed to me as very promising. check this screenshots for comparison

Is it just me or are they going overboard with the transvestite jokes?

I've seen to episode 3 so far, but I'm still not convinced this show is worth the hype. I hoped this would be the best show of this season (a title currently owned by K-On!), but so far, it's proving to be the worst (at least, of the ones I thought would be interesting enough to watch).

i've seen 5 episodes so far (that's the number released) and i like the show. but there is something i would like to ask: was the original novel printed only in japan? was it ever translated? i really want to read the book...

edit: i wonder, will there be some really serious group subbing this show? or we're waiting for DVD or Blu-Ray to come out?

edit2: i found nice full opening i take no responsibility :D

Anime finished on TT. O-L released the last episode. Who's going to put it up on BakaBT? I hope they get a batch up soon on TT or BakaBT.

Heh, I made that post back around the first week of April. I finally realized my true calling. The Anime Prophet. Gather around sheeple, and listen to my prophecies.

I lost interest in this since the groups who were doing it were doing it slowly. Oh, well. Teaches me to wait for something to get fully released.

Aren't O-L's encodes low on detail? I'm fairly sure their HD version is an upscale. Though, some mods on BakaBT clearly doesn't care much about that (won't point fingers). Here's comparison views. I wish Jade hadn't dropped it.
