Things make much more sense in Kai. Although I have to say i'm not a big fan of higurashi. To me the first season for the most part seemed like pointless violence.

HOOOOWHAAAAAAA!!!!   :o
The violence and gore is what makes the series so great ;D . But seriously, even though the first season doesn't give any real answers it is still pretty deep and well thought out. I just HAD to watch the series after hearing my friend say he had to turn off his television at some point because the violence hit him so hard.

Though I never actually had to turn my television off at all I was cringing and pulling my hair at quite a few scenes. I was a little disappointed though that Kai did not have as much violence/gore.

Yeah, once I got to episode 4, I could not stop watching. I can safely say that watching Higurashi was the best two weeks of my life. It's one of the only shows I really miss. I loved the art style, the music, the characters and their personalities...I can't think of a single thing I didn't like, really.

the nail torture beats it! that thing got to me

I think Satoko getting nailed to the cross was the worst thing for me. I almost spasmed in sympathy...

I love Higurashi =)

Though i've always had a problem with Shion having to rip off her own finger nails (only 1 then the rest were done by the lackies). She would have been super justifed imo to hunt down the peeps who put her through that and kick the shit outta them =P

The Higurashi series successfully renewed my interest in anime, thus why I'm a user on this message board... I also watch it for Tomitake. Yeah, that's right.   ;D

There should really be spoiler tags for about half of the posts in this thread...

I find that Higurashi has the right amount of violence to hold down the mind-tripping.  Some series just get way too "out there", and can kinda lose me (although I'll finish them eventually).  When crazy stuff starts happening here, my attention is grabbed.

Or maybe someone should just create a topic where we can speak more freely without spoiler tags ;) lol.

Has anyone seen some of Rei that can attest to whether it is worth watching after the other two seasons?

YES. I laughed so hard at that ep. It's like they took every funny thing from the rest of the series and put it into Rei 1. (Swimsuits, magic, and penalty games) It has nothing to do with the show, but it's hilarious. (And if you love fanservice, there's lots.)

Haven't seen the second one, but I will soon enough.

The first ep of Rei made me a Sad Panda. Higurashi Fumoffu!  :'(

The second ep sets it back on Higurashi's normal path. I am interested to see where it will go.

I am a sucker for tragedies, so the first season is my favorite (and they should never have tried to wrap up the loose ends with a second series).

I'm with you. I truly enjoyed the first series more than the second one; however, without the second series I don't think I would have been able to look back on the first series and been entirely happy having never known what was truly going on. I do think that the second season should have been a little more like the first season even if it was explaining things. I was very disappointed that the second season was very "sane" and even happy at times, but like "Clannad/After Story" the two seasons just don't work without the each other.

You make a good point, and in retrospect I agree with you.

I didn't care for the last episode of After Story either for that matter.

Yea me too. I took a 2 year break from anime and I was looking around to see a new show and Higurashi was labeled as a great 'horror' anime. I was far from disappointed.

If Cowboy Bebop never came out, Higurashi would be my favorite anime of all time (and I have seen Code Geass, FMA, Death Note, Gurren Lagann etc.)

I, like many, was hooked after the first 4 episodes. Hooked enough to watch the first season in 3 days. By far the 'question' arcs make for a better season then 'answer' arcs so the 2nd season took me a lot longer to watch but as a whole it definetly was a '... wow' moment at the end. Im hoping Rei can live up to the darkness of the series like people are speculating it will.
