There should really be spoiler tags for about half of the posts in this thread...

I find that Higurashi has the right amount of violence to hold down the mind-tripping.  Some series just get way too "out there", and can kinda lose me (although I'll finish them eventually).  When crazy stuff starts happening here, my attention is grabbed.

Or maybe someone should just create a topic where we can speak more freely without spoiler tags ;) lol.

Has anyone seen some of Rei that can attest to whether it is worth watching after the other two seasons?

YES. I laughed so hard at that ep. It's like they took every funny thing from the rest of the series and put it into Rei 1. (Swimsuits, magic, and penalty games) It has nothing to do with the show, but it's hilarious. (And if you love fanservice, there's lots.)

Haven't seen the second one, but I will soon enough.

The first ep of Rei made me a Sad Panda. Higurashi Fumoffu!  :'(

The second ep sets it back on Higurashi's normal path. I am interested to see where it will go.

I am a sucker for tragedies, so the first season is my favorite (and they should never have tried to wrap up the loose ends with a second series).

I'm with you. I truly enjoyed the first series more than the second one; however, without the second series I don't think I would have been able to look back on the first series and been entirely happy having never known what was truly going on. I do think that the second season should have been a little more like the first season even if it was explaining things. I was very disappointed that the second season was very "sane" and even happy at times, but like "Clannad/After Story" the two seasons just don't work without the each other.

You make a good point, and in retrospect I agree with you.

I didn't care for the last episode of After Story either for that matter.
(click to show/hide)Even though they were following the game, that deux ex machina still made me shudder. They could have pulled an amazing one up on the movie and made a spectacular tragedy out of Clannad.
