I don't read/speak Japanese but its my understanding that 'She: The ultimate weapon' is what Saishuuheiki Kanojo basically translates into.  Japanese seem to like to shorten/mash words together and you get Saikano out of that.

It might be an alternative title. I know that culturally there is credence to the idea that names in japanese would have different meanings if directly translated.

Almost finished with the TV series... can't say I like the series but it kept me watching 'till episode 10 at least.
Too many contrived situations to try and force tears out of the viewer.  I guess the reason I kept watching is because I just sort of believed they would explain things in the end.

I like how at the end of the HQA-ANBU episode 10, they tell you it is

School Days doesn't get worse at the end. It only gets better and better till the end... which is the most epic win I've seen in anime ;D. Seriously I love that ending, it makes the series fell so nice. It was the first anime I saw since I watched CCS when I was 10 years old (I'm 18 now, and I watched School Days 7 months ago).

I picked this anime up at HMV a little while ago, watched the tv series and then the movie.
At first I thought it was shockingly bad but it managed to turn me around a bit at the end and question what I really thought of it. It def could have been better and it is without a shadow of a doubt not the best anime out there.

Anyone else seen it?
yes I have, and I ignored the warning the sub group had with it also.
is that REALLY the official english title? it should have been, "My Girlfriend: The Ultimate Weapon", although that may have been taken as comedic.

saishuu: 最終 【さいしゅう】 (n,adj-no) last; final; closing
heiki: 兵器 【へいき】 (n) arms; weapons; ordinance;
kanojo: 彼女 【かのじょ】 (pn,adj-no) (1) she; her; (2) girl friend; girlfriend; sweetheart;

The meaning is pretty straight-forward but the kanji might be wrong. You could probably check in the official description.

When I was in high school, I avoided this anime because I didn't want anything "romantic" or "cheesy". I also avoided Onegai Teacher.
Five years later, some dude lent me his Saikano DVDs and I watched the series. I liked it. It's not exactly romantic, but dramatic. The ending could have been better.

Apparently, Onegai Teacher is still cheesy romantic, so I won't watch it, ever... unless this same dude comes up and gives me free anime, then, hell, I watch anything.

I heard about this title but never picked it up... I guess there is no time like the present.
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

It's not. The Viz DVDs are titled "Saikano." Man I need to watch the fansub version of this sometime, especially after I begged and pleaded for someone to upload it.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

just got done watching episode 7..... im done... PERIOD.....

ive decided to take a break from watching this show until im in that sort of mood.

i wiki-ed what was actually going on during the show.. and uhhh (spoiler warning?)

it turns out its the end of world... and the only livable land is japan which is why countrys all over the world are fighting for it.
Chise being frail as all hell with the ultimate weapon built into her only makes things worse since she makes cities "disapear".
with that in mind im going to put the remainder of the show on hold till im in a tragic mood.

still a good show. just a bit too sad for me right now. Sadder and less violent then school days.

tatsujin thx!!( for nothin! ) thanks Sebur for the SIG!

hmm, well i read the whole manga and that was intresting/diffrent. I was fairly shocked at how it ended.

though it was ballshit that she could wipe out whole cities and blow up whole fleets of bombers; if she could do that how come she couldn't win the war? =P Nothing could harm her, anything she attacked was annihilated. I'd just aim her in the direction of whoever the enemy was and destory all their major cities. They'd be happy to sign a peace treaty then.

My theory was that the enemy was actually the anti-spirals who were pretending to be an aggressive nation and kept producing limitless amounts of troops, planes, tanks (U name it) for whats her name to destory. Yes, im semi joking but you'd have to be psychotic or brainless to fight a war with a country that had her in it =P

SPOILER

I'd just aim her in the direction of whoever the enemy was and destory all their major cities. They'd be happy to sign a peace treaty then.

This is exactly what she did; the reason for the massive assault towards the end, ultimately was because those forces had nowhere left to go - everything else had been annihilated.

Not brainless, desperate. Her powers kept growing, and the nature of the war meant that it eventually escalated to a point of no return; in a nutshell, as Chise's power grew stronger, attempts to incapacitate or kill her intensified as the threat she posed became ever more apparent. This lead to a growing desperation on both sides; the Japanese would use Chise indiscriminately to strike at their enemies (including vaporising their own cities) in an attempt to stall the invaders, and they in turn were forced to commit ever larger forces. By the time Chise's powers finally go out of control, well, see my first comment.

As for why they don't surrender earlier, the rest of the world is, at the time of the series, no longer hospitable; the exact reasons are never really elaborated upon, but presumably the land can no longer support mankind for a prolonged period of time. Hence, the invaders have to claim Japan if they're to have anywhere to live, and the Japanese are evidently not too keen on sharing.
