Subtitles for Azumanga Daioh
Xiong Chiamiov:
Azu is definitely on my to-buy list, but for right now, I was showing my roommates some of it, and KAA's version is frankly pretty terrible. First, I had to turn off SSA processing, since they decided to color it pink (gah!), and then they stick lines and lines of TL notes on a page (it got up to somewhere around 8 lines once!).
I was able to find some .srts floating around the 'nets, but they're in Russian :(, which doesn't help me much. Didn't see anything on the #news packlists.
No links to anything please (since it's AVD-licensed), but I was just wondering what y'all did? ADV DVDs? Old fansubs? Remux yourself?

I don't recall using KAA fansubs. But using anidb, you might find some other fansubbers you can try to compare. Also, if you use some private trackers like demonoid which usually have english stuff and not russian or other funny fansubs... you might find somethign interesting.

Not too many other people did the show, and I can't seem to find anything else besides KAA's, other than random .avi crap.

I'm looking at one by KM fansubs or something. Not sure on quality though.
Zalis116:
I first saw it via the old NLA&Ishin&A-F (=The Triad) TV-fansubs, which is still an excellent release despite its age. Yeah, the A/V quality isn't the greatest, but the subbing is top-notch. So don't be too quick to discount the "random .avi crap" -- IIRC there's a torrent out there with the NLA/Ishin/A-F .avi release, without any group tags in the file names.
Other than that, you could try one of the dual-audio versions, like Blitz, B-A, or a4e. Those should have plain .srt without hardsubbed karaoke or lengthy onscreen notes. I never checked those out myself, as I picked up ADV's release, but they should be obtainable on IRC.
