Which if we watch his development from the beginning he never had that trait nor did he allude to it.  It was more like the creators of the series didn’t want Light to win, because if he did that meant, in some twisted way, that evil triumph over good.  And apparently that’s politically incorrect even in fiction in the global society.

He *did* win.  And then, then decided to make some 13-odd more episodes.

There wouldn't have been an end if Light had won again, because there'd always be someone to oppose him.

They could have used the dreaded 30 year timeskip where light passed away due to old age, and what he left behind him was conspiracy and fear on a global scale, people watching their backs every night, hooligans looking into the sky wondering if a rock is going to fall on them etc etc

I've just finished watching this Anime. And I loved it. I will always adress it as DeathNote26, because that's where everything should end. I disliked the last 11 episodes. A really massive downfall of quality 27-37. I guess they wanted to drag out the standard-size 26ep anime due to popular pressure or something.

4.5/5 because of those last 11 eps.

I'm certainly of the notion that it ended pretty perfectly.  I saw nothing out of character for how he acted, as his entire world was falling apart.  This was HIS story, and it was ending.  It was completely inconceivable to him.

all in all though, a great show.  Someone mentioned code geass earlier in the thread as a similar show, and I'd also like to recommend this to anyone who enjoyed death note.  While it never really gets quite as dark, CG has so fantastic moments and a character whose failures are just as enjoyable to watch as Lights.

and im back on the part where misa goes to lights house and i think ive just realized something.

Light never thought about procreation or a family or anything of the like.
he only ever used the women around him. was he ever planning to settle down whilst killing people?

died no one noticed how pretty much all progress in the kira murders ceased. in which it woulda probably been best that light disbanded the whole thing or left the case. Years had passed and no progress...thats a sign to me.

L is still the best character in the show. its extremley sad that he dies, when he dies... so does the show. L shoulda killed light some type of way. or burned the notebooks anyway.

Eh.  Dislike the manga. As far as I know, nothing was improvised by the Animation studio or the script writers. Everything was in the manga, well, maybe except for that Death Note Conclusion Special... they didn't do it even if there was hype around the series...

This is a brilliant one of a kind anime, my bro watched the whole series in 1.5 days and he got bit obsessed over it for a around a week or two after finishing it. Although where I did start loosing a bit of interest was when:

L dies and we are introduced to Mello and Near who I never really cared for the same way as L. Some parts after this began to look abit flaky but then again I wasn't following it as carefully as before when L died. Personally I kind of liked the way the Rewite Vol.1 ended after L's death, I think it should've ended after L or should've ended how it did in the 2nd Live-action movie (although I didn't see it properly, from what I saw it looked like a good ending).

I liked Death Note a lot, but overall it was really predictable.  The only thing I can think of that wasn't predictable was that Light doesn't kill L, the other Shimigami (name escapes me atm) does.  And that Mello / Near exist.  The only real driving force of the show was L and Lights chemistry.  They worked so well together, especially with L's determination that Light actually is Kira even to the bitter end.

I started to hate Light at the end (though he made me angry most of the series) but hey, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely)

This was at the end of episode 7 after Light reveals himself to be kira and sends off the poor girl to her "suicide". The way the anime showed it is just.. masterful. I've never seen such visual imagery being used in this way.

I thought the bus/subway episodes did that way better...

The entire episode was Light following the chick around trying to get her (real) name and having her tell him everything he's already done.

The problem with that ep was it was too much build up for one moment, and one we all saw coming.  Could have definitely done it with a half or even a third of an episode.

Have to agree there. Even I would have been more careful than light at the end. I would have obviously told mikame to hide pages in different places of his house like toilets,in the pillow and many other places and in hs wallet and in hisboxers' pockets and told him to use THOSE papers on that final day as he knew they would try exchanging.He really did become a fool. I dont remember anymore foolish acts of his now but i used to have a lot of them in my mind at a time.

He would NEVER trade half of his life. remember he wants to reign fr a long time? What if his lifespan was originally 34 years? If he halved it he would die imediately. And my methods would have worked MUCH better.
