Death note is a must see :)

He would NEVER trade half of his life. remember he wants to reign fr a long time? What if his lifespan was originally 34 years? If he halved it he would die imediately. And my methods would have worked MUCH better.  ;D
i think its actually half of his remaining life. (Misa made the deal 4 times)

thats because every time the trade is off the remaining time left, not the original, for example, lets say your time was 100 years, and you have at least 17 years, the rade off is 100-17=83 left, trade for eyes -50% = you have 41,5 years left to live, another trade for eyes is for 20,75 years, another would be for next 10,375 of your years left to you, 4th trade off would be you have left 5 years and around 18 days left of life, with each trade your life span shortens by the half of the ammount you were originally left to live, theoretically you could trade for eternity but at some point you would end up having only a few minutes left ahead of you.

Remember Ryuk also laughed at Light when he told Light about the deal. Ryuk could see it of course, I believe it's somewhere in the beginning where he hints at Light's lifespan when he says he's going to stay around Light to "pass time" or "have fun" or something like that. I'm pretty sure Light picked up on it and decided to keep as much as he had left as well as the fact he calculated that his actions with the death note would cause him to be targeted by people. Which occurred soon after with the appearance of L and continued till the end of Light's life.

Ryuk's last statement at the end also seems to remind the reader of this.

Keep in mind...

Light & L are highly calculating individuals.
Mellow was most similar to the two in this regard but no where as strong.
Near on the other hand guessed a hell of a lot.

Well, to be fair... she does have 2 eyes... so making the deal twice would be she's gotten 4 shinigami eyes in her lifetime   ::)

I thought she got the eyes from that shinigami that loved her. But then she lost them when she revoked her book for Light's plan.

I doubt this might interest many, but at least this made my day :D

Today, 1.28.2013, according to the Death Note anime timeline, takes place the following events:

Near releases Misa Amane and sends her to the Imperial Hotel.

In an abandoned warehouse, Light Yagami and the KIRA Investigation Team come face-to-face with Near and the SPK.

Teru Mikami, also at the warehouse, writes down in the (fake) Death Note the names of all those present, excluding himself and Light Yagami.

The persons whose names have been written down do not die and Teru Mikami is seized by the SPK members.

Faced with overwhelming evidence, Light Yagami admits that he is KIRA.

Teru Mikami commits suicide.

Light Yagami is killed by the power of Ryuk’s Death Note.

Ryuk returns to the Shinigami Realm.
