Is it worth to watch Rurouni Kenshin?
« on: May 02, 2009, 09:39:59 PM »

I just finished watching Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal  and it was good  (not really gold like as a lot of people regards it) but it left me curios about the series.

BUT is 95 chapters long!

So, is it worth the time watch it and dl it?

I mean, will I be blown away after watching it?

Example: Code Geas, Evangelion, Cowboybepop. Blown away type?

Thanks.

If you've got the time, but as in most anime that stretches that long - there are interesting episodes, and there are boring...

But I dunno, it doesn't get better than the movie - it ain't bad but it's definitely not better...

not worth your time if your lookin to get blown away, i tried to get into the show myself a few years ago, but the show and caracters was to weak for me to stomach, and i had to put it out of its misery after about 20 eps, and i tried hard to get into it couse i heard it was so good, and iv managed to get thru alot of half a**ed shows thru the years, so nopes in my opinion;)

the first half of the series is ok, the second half the manga wasnt written yet so after he fights mummy lookin guy. It takes a huge plummet into complete garbage

Why don't you read the manga instead? =P It's far better then the series :D

The good thing about RK (or Samurai X) is that it's chopped into reasonably neat arcs. The first two arcs (up to episode 62) are quite solid, but the last third was almost unwatchable for me.

Yeah, that's why.

The filler is there, on occasion, but it's not as mindless as some other long (and longer) series I could mention.

I dont read manga, any of it.

Is not my coup of tea.

So I guess I'll pass this time.  Right now watching clannad, another supposed master peace, so far no good. Another history of high schoolers!

Clannad 1 was amazing in itself! Most anime that revolve around daily life and drama tend to be orientated around highschool as its aimed towards people within that age to help them relate to it easier, its just the way it is designed to be.

And on topic, I've always thought about watching Rurouni Kenshin, but its just so long and with the negative input I see here, I assume it is kinda like bleach, anime starts off alright but then it drags on with random fillers due to its long episode length and also with an unfinished manga. (just like claymore D:)

Clannad is amazing both seasons.

As for Kenshin, it is definitely worth watching up until the end of the Kyoto Arc. After that it goes from being watchable but not as great to pretty much crap.

I liked both.  Of course, the OVAs are much better and it's a different atmosphere.  But can't say the series was bad.  Think it's one of the better shounen of that time.

I'm personally glad that I saw the series before the OVAs.  So from already knowing many of the characters' history, made the OVAs that much better.

plus the OVA is more realistic, gore and violence than the TV series ... i dropped the TV series around episode 3 or 4, too much to complain about ... just didn't like it.

No important story after the Shishio arc anyway, watch up to there and then watch the other OVA.

I wouldn't say GARBAGE, but it certainly wasn't as good as the first two arcs.

Example: Code Geas, Evangelion, Cowboybepop. Blown away type?

Thanks.

I wouldn't say Kenshin BLEW ME AWAY, but I enjoyed the characters alot.  The series does a great job of getting you invested into them (and now that I think about it, there were quite a few of them, weren't there?).

I loved Kenshin. The 3rd arc wasn't that great, just compiled of short filler episodes.

Kenshin's personality is a bit different through the series then it was during the OVA. Much more goofy at first.

If you read manga I would suggest that, but the anime is no throwaway.

I agree with most people here, It is a good series.  And it is definitely worth watching atleast once through the Kyoto arc.  Personally I have seen the series a couple of times and i still love it.  If you are looking for a bloody action pact gore fest you aren't going to find it here though.

The only thing that bothers me is how the animation goes from grundgy in the first 2-3 episodes to ok, then to pretty darn good for the time.  It makes me laugh really.

ok kenshin after it goes into filler

now my memory is prolly a bit off, but ill definately suggest completely skipping the series. Its a watered down version of the OVAs.

If your looking for stuff thats good and similar, check out shura no toki, 12 kingdoms and serei no moribito the 2nd 2 arent quite the same but are fantastic

I finished 12 kingdoms a few months ago, it is pretty darn good.  Takes a little getting use to, and I don't like how they left one of the characters hanging.  But it was really good.

As for Serei no Moribito; it was good, a little dull in the middle, but I enjoyed the series from beginning to end.

This is my advice to you:

First watch all Kenshin episodes and pay good attention to the Shinsengumi captains there.

Then start watching Gintama and be ready to laugh your ass off.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?
