Kenshin's a good series as long as you ditch the episodes after the Kyoto arc epilogue episode. Episodes 63+ are pure filler. How good are the fillers? The results speak for themselves. Kenshin was a popular series but the animation team caught up with the manga and went into fillers. Viewer ratings fell so badly they never got around to animating the last third of the manga (and this was only 32 episodes of filler. Compare that to Naruto's 85-episode filler hell before Shippuuden. No wonder they changed the name to signal viewers to "come back please").
Last third involves Kenshin's past and they made the Trust & Betrayal OVA out of the part where Kenshin tells his friends about his past.
Remembrance OVA has a really shortened version of what happens in the last third of the manga, including a different ending for Kenshin's story.

I loved Kenshin. All of it, though yeah, the last bit of the anime was less than inspiring, but I didn't feel my time was wasted. Total WTF ending to the series though, it's going on and then, BAM, the end.

Love the movie and OVAs though. I really want more of the Trust & Betrayal OVA.

Rurouni Kenshin the first subbed anime series I watched, and I don't think I got more than two or three episodes past the end of the Kyoto arc.  At the time I watched it (1999 or 2000) it was a pretty exciting show...up to that point.  I got into the series because I saw the first set of OVAs at a sci-fi convention my friends took me to.  I spent the whole weekend in the anime room.  The OVA was so different from anything I'd seen before that, the artwork, the music, the seriousness of it, that I got hooked.  I bought the soundtrack that weekend, and found the series on ebay.

I wish the second OVAs hadn't rushed the Revenge arc, but by the time they were released, Kenshin wasn't the big series anymore.  They were good, but even more depressing as the first OVA  :D
