Japanese Subs/Scripts
« on: May 09, 2009, 07:25:11 AM »
Okay, I don't even know if this exists, and various searches of the almighty Google have not given me quite what I'm looking for, so I figure if anyone knows, it's the people on this site. :)

I'm wondering if anyone has undertaken the great task of writing out the Japanese script to any anime? I've only found one that actually has romanji and English, and not just English, and that's the script to Mononoke Hime (link below).

I would also be interested in Japanese romanji subs, if such things exist. If anyone knows of a site where I can find any other scripts like the one above, I would be glad of that knowledge. I would even be glad for a suggestion of a Japanese site, if it had what I was looking for. As a fairly new watcher of anime, I'm slowly starting to consistently hear certain words and phrases that are making sense to me as I watch, but since I'm not sure of how these words are spelled, looking up their exact meaning is difficult at best. By reading some fan fiction, I've been able to actually see some of the more common words spelled out, and learn/research their meanings. Same with some of the fansubs, which will keep certain Japanese words/phrases as is, with a translation the first couple of times it is used. Then, as only a novice of a new language can do, I watch the anime and proudly think to myself "hey, I know what that word really means!" I think that it would be easy to learn a whole bunch of new words very quickly if a whole script to an episode was available.

I know, a long explanation to a simple question.

That could take a long time, depending on how much dialogue there is in a particular show/episode.

You could get subtitles from the R2J DVDs, or CCs from the TS raws.

Not scripts, but this might help you nonetheless:

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. That site that you gave me really helps, Zalis.

I'm going to keep looking, and post anything here if I find it, since I know that I'm not the only one looking.

I suppose my next question would be if certain anime on DVD come with the romanji?

Not romaji, no. Even Closed Captions aren't in romaji.
