Neon Genesis Evangelion [Again]
« on: May 13, 2009, 02:38:01 AM »
Okay so I decided to watch one of the supposed greatest anime ever made (I mean who's gonna argue that lol) Evangelion after having not seen it since I was in elementary school. It feels great to watch classic anime at it's best, kinda makes you appreciate how far anime has come. My thoughts:

-OMG Shinji get over puberty you emo (lol i'm on episode 5 I'm sure it gets better)
-Blood!
-Ayanami reminds me of Nagato from "Suzumiya Haruhi" (yes yes it's supposed to be the other way around but w/e)

And that's it so far.  Anyone else watching this series again, or just started to watch it? If you've never heard of this anime and you're reading this, please watch it ASAP, as you were deprived of one of the greatest anime ever made.

Peace!  ;D

Shinji gets worse, if anything. Thank god Gainax hasn't used his character type in too many other things.

You're making a claim like that even before you've finished watching it?

And... why do you say it's the greatest anime ever made, anyway? From what I see, you've given more than half the anime you've watched the same rating as Eva...

lol wow you actually looked at my profile huh :p. anyways ive seen this anime already, like i said in my first post. second in my opinion most of the anime i watched were really good, and they werent dull so i give them high rating. third i don't have the time to actually analyze every anime i have ever watched and place it on anime planet, i looked for the ones i remembered from recent and from ones that really stuck to me as i grew up watching them. i'm not gonna try arguing with you, as you are entitled to your own opinion.

If NGE ended the way it did, without the OVA to finish it up, I'd rank it as the WORST ANIME OF ALL TIME.  I remember when I saw last ep, originally, and I didn't know there was an OVA to REALLY finish it up, I was fucking furious.

BUT!  Asuka and Rei were awesome characters in that story.  Shinji was just the worst character of all time, though.  If a series tried to have a character like Shinji nowadays, that anime would fail pretty quickly.  As great as NGE was at the time, I don't think it would do that well if it were released today.

Haruhi's gonna smite you guys if you keep talking about her behind her back.

Evangelion was unique for its time, and I feel it's poisoned that sub-genre of mecha anime somewhat. It hasn't aged well.

I, for one, am thankful Gainax has decided to go back to its bouncy, size-obsessed roots with Gurren Lagann. Now if only they'd bring out another Top wo Nerae!. Oh wait, there was/is Shikabane Hime, that's not too bad.

Gainax has like my fav animes:

Evangelion
Tenguen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Kare kano
. . .
FLCL

great shows!

but the point about evangleion. . .
you can compare it with whatever modern mecha anime. . .but evangelion is soo fucking deep. . .
soo deep that you wonder "did hideakki anno really did all the research to make this anime THIS DEEP or was it just holy coincidence

Probably if you listen to the whole series audio backwards youll find god's equation or something.
y=mx+b
lol

===change the thread name===
leave just "Neon Genesis Evangelion"
take out the [again] (makes it sound like theres a finite discussion about evangelion and that its being repeated)  :P

Oh come on, you seriously think Anno planned Eva? He's said in so many interviews that he was just 'going with the flow' and trying to mess with people as much as possible. After watching his other works, I seriously don't think he has that kind of capability.

NGE was awful because Shinji was a whiny bitch who needed to seriously die. I hate him more than any other character... ever. Seriously, if he wasn't in it, I probably would have liked it.

Some of the Eva clones have surpassed the series, sorry.

LoL.  I feel the same way about Simon in Tengen.  He's just a kamina wannabe and kamina should've been the main character.

About Simon, at least he changes throughout the series, unlike Shinji.
Another thing... you forgot Kouta in Elfen Lied. I kept hoping Lucy would get pissed off with him and tear his head off.

He's a Kamina wannabe even tough he says "Who the hell do you think I am? I'm Simon. Not Aniki. I'm Simon, Simon the Digger"? He purposely distinguishes himself from Kamina, yet you still say he's a wannabe.

He was a kamina-wannabe... for all of 1 ep. After Nia is introduced in the story that never happened anymore.

Yeah, Nia was introduced, he saved Nia, and then he distinguished himself from Kamina.
