I haven't watched the series of this yet, but I read the manga and was quite pleased with it. I didn't find Shinji too whiny in the manga so as long as he is about the same in the anime then I should be good. The only bad thing about the manga is that the battles are super confusing and don't make a lot of sense, since you don't really see whats going on. anyways, this is next on my list as a duo with interspersed episodes of School Days, just as soon as I finish Fate/Stay Night and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (also interspersed). Hope it can live up to the hype.

Oh my god, Proin is going to flame this so hard.

The story in RahXephon is more plain and understandable even though it leaves a lot to your own imagination. NGE is just trying to confuse the shit out of you in order to conceal it's extremely lame plot (or rather lack of one).

RahXephon characters are somewhat cliché, however they are not as pathetic as that epic fail of a creature called Shinji.

RahXephon's animation is much better as well. I must admit this Japanese "I love my cousin" bullshit annoys me as it always have.

In other words NGE failed while RahXephon was a mediocrity.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Gainax has like my fav animes:

Evangelion
Tenguen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Kare kano
. . .
FLCL

great shows!

but the point about evangleion. . .
you can compare it with whatever modern mecha anime. . .but evangelion is soo fucking deep. . .
soo deep that you wonder "did hideakki anno really did all the research to make this anime THIS DEEP or was it just holy coincidence

Probably if you listen to the whole series audio backwards youll find god's equation or something.
y=mx+b
lol

===change the thread name===
leave just "Neon Genesis Evangelion"
take out the [again] (makes it sound like theres a finite discussion about evangelion and that its being repeated)  :P

lol haha now which quadrant is god's solution located :p

My personal opinion of them is still:

In other words NGE failed while RahXephon was a mediocrity.

This was not based on the factor of hype because I don't ever give a shit about other's opinions. Oh, and I get your point, I just can't answer it like that because I don't know how retarded people are rating their anime.

I agree on all points, except with how good RahXephon was... but to each their own.

As for the cousin thing... they're not blood-related at all.

It is practically impossible for it to live up to more than 10 years of phenomenal hype.  That's why you get some people listing it as one of the worst anime ever  ::).
But now you can see where the millions of Asuka and Rei carbon-copies came from.

Shinji is waaay tougher in the manga.  And nothing can live up to that level of hype.

People liking their cousins shouldn't be an issue anyway. It's only recently in history that a person's cousin became socially off-limits. It's just convention. If you look at it practically it doesn't even matter.

Attraction to your immediate family has some very troublesome social and psychological and some say genetic problems mixed up in it, but back in the old days people married their cousins all the time.

If Shinji isn't such a lamer I just might bother to read the manga. I hate that about action mangas though when you can't tell what the hell is going on in the fight scenes:
ARM! → SWORD! → SWORD CUTTING SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE AN ARM! → LEG ON THE GROUND! → WHAT?!?

Oh I agree. Just saying that they really aren't "cousins". But it wouldn't bother me if they were... since Haruka is a favorite of mine :D

I've seen Eva three or four times now. When I first saw it many, many years ago... I thought it was pretty damn good, outside of the crybaby. But as the years have gone by and I've been exposed to more and more anime, it's not nearly as good as I originally thought it was. At this point, the only saving grace for the series is Misato, cuz she is awesome. And don't even get me started on that garbage called the "End of Eva". Ugh.

Oh come on, you seriously think Anno planned Eva? He's said in so many interviews that he was just 'going with the flow' and trying to mess with people as much as possible. After watching his other works, I seriously don't think he has that kind of capability.

thats what I mean that it makes you wonder. .. its all soo awesomely connected!

its like. . .led zeppelin. . .
did they actually planned for their song to be played backwards and make it sound like they are talking about satan?
damm that backmasking.

I shall agree with that. . .shinji isnt as pussy in the manga as he is in the anime. . . the only part where I was like OMG! SHINJI IS THAT YOU? is when
(click to show/hide)
thats when he had his mental breakdown and became a man.

It makes me wonder who really wrote Eva's plot, because I really don't think it was Anno... :P

I played it backwards and could only hear that song played backwards. I feel it's only people who already believe that there's something to be heard who hear it. Besides, it would be a ridiculously expensive way to spread the word of the devil. Same thing with The Eagles' Hotel California. :-\
Not to mention those people who first suggested it wouldn't know good music if it kicked them in the butt. They were trying to ban so-called offensive material like they still are now. It was all just rumour and lies to make people suspicious.

I suggest reading up on it on the net.  There's so much imagery in it borrowed from other works; made it more cool for me to find out where ideas were gathered from.  Also, if you enjoy reading, I recommend Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke... it was a big influence on the core ideas of NGE.  Turns out that book influenced lots of different works.

guys guys guys. . .
the question here my friends. . .

Who killed Ryoji Kaji ?

MY answer
(click to show/hide)

enough of that!

there is actually a "red cross book" which is like an encyclopedia of evangelion.

anyways if you look on the net you're not gonna reach anything

trying to evaluate the equation
f(x) = evangelion yelds no finite value, the graph of the equation therefore diverges to infinity.
