What really got you into anime?

ray1301:
When there wasn't as much anime on TV in the 90's

Transformers (?)
Tenchi series
Pokemon
DBZ
Escaflowne

and even earlier was that old anime about the young robotic girl with purple hair, where poo on sticks had faces and what not, chinese dubbed I think, on tape...tape????

And probably for a better answer, awful english cartoons.

Aneroph:
I always watched them as a kid never really knowing what they were. Sonic, Dragonball Z, Pokemon, etc. i got really involved in DBZ and then I lost my cable when we moved to a new house. When we lost cable I lost all my connections with anime. Finally, fast forward to junior/senior year of highschool we finally got our cable back when we moved into the city again. Not long after I caught an all night marathon of Bleach on Cartoon Network. I then started nabbing some OP ED music from the series and watching it every Saturday after work. Eventually watching anime on Saturdays after really long week of work was the only thing I really had to look forward to. I got involved with Bleach, Trinity Blood, Blood +, FMA, Eureka Seven, and a few odds and ends. I liked Eureka seven so much I decided to buy the DVDs. After watching through them all three or four times I switched over to the Japanese voices to see what they sounded like and was disgusted at the time. They sounded high pitched, whiny, and annoying. I reverted back the English version for the rest of the series. Eventually, my curiosity got the best of me and forced myself to start watching the series from the beginning with the Japanese voices. By the time I finished I swore that I would never go back to English voices. This is basically how my obsession started.

You mean Dr. Slump, a spin off from original Dragon Ball. That girl first apeared in the episode where General Blue from Red Ribon and Goku ended up in a nutjob town.
