The second was DBZ from 1998 to I think 1999 or 2000 or something. I got to know more about anime around 2004 of March with Scrapped Princess then Hajime no Ippo ... and then, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. KgNE became my favorite anime; it struck me to know something as realistic as this to exist in anime! I was very happy and that is when I begun my career as an anime seeker.

I guess thats true, its not like we instantly watch anime as kids then start finding torrents and collecting :p I guess I also seriously started to collect anime after I bought my 1TB HDD and earlier when we upgraded our ISP to unlimited DL. lol I wonder how I would have survived on limited downloads :p

I'm trying to make things unlimited in my life. The only limited thing I have now is the damn bandwith ... @#%@ing comcast, they're the only high speed Internet connection around my area too, how odd. WTB FiOS.

The anime that showed me the medium isn't just for kids or people with dubious taste. I then became enamoured with the medium and its potential, then a few years later, disenchanted at what it really was. Now I'm happy if there are a few shows a season that catch my full attention.  I think in 2008 there were maybe one or two.

Gangler:
I got involved originally because my parents used to have a rule that I had to take part in an extra-curricular activity every year, but I was not, still am not really, big on the whole commitment thing. I found out that my school had an anime club and figured they were probably a pretty laid back group. I checkedt them out and sure enough they asked for absolutely nothing from me. However, they introduced me to anime, showing me that it had a subculture, and that many of the shows I had liked were part of it, not defined merely by the art style, but by the culture they came from. Probably the earliest anime that I went crazy for was digimon. I got up at seven every morning (or was it only saturdays, it's hard to remember) so that I could watch it on fox for the early viewing, and then again at 11. I had an enourmous crush on kari (think it's hikari in japan) back before I got old enough that it would make me a pedophile (or lolicon, whichever you prefer, lolicon really does sound nicer). It was one of the sadder moments of growing up when season for came on to ytv and I realized that I just didn't enjoy it in quite the same way anymore. Anyway, despite joining the club so that I wouldn't have to do anything I found I was attending every week and was always the last to leave, and later even dressed up for my first appearance at Anime North. Nothing quite like the first one. Needless to say, despite what my parents kept telling me about how I would grow out of anime that never happened and I continue to watch avidly whenever I can find a moment.

Ok, for starters... Scarrrrreeewww you! Scooby Doo is freagin' awesome! Powerpuff Girls? Mojo Jojo is the best! I really disliked Dragon Ball Z even though most of my friends enjoyed the series as a kid.. That and Pokemon really put me off from Anime for years until one of my good friends recommended I watch Death Note a year'ish ago.

Now I'm hooked! I started watching the various 'grown-up' anime, and fell in love with the romance/drama genre. Something American cartoons really can't pull off with the same power that an Anime could. (and Anime simply can't pull off some genres like an American cartoon could in my opinion too!)

Both American and Anime cartoons have their strengths and weakenesses, I just learn to love them both.
