What really got you into anime?

LoneWolf:
I watched some anime as a kid ( Moomins, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Digimon, etc...) but what really got me into anime was X 1999.

I just started to watch anime couple months ago, registered on some forum and saw anime topic. I remembered that I saw X 1999 on the VIVA or MTV as a kid so I started watching it.

My cousin told me about Love Hina, which he had read a volume in his school library once (and surprisingly enough he doesn't watch anime at all except for a random episode I show him here and there and DBZ), and I looked it up online and found online readers, but not a single one had a full volume so I read partial volumes until I got so hooked and desperate I stumbled upon Torrents. Big mistake. After that I just read so many manga, that I don't even remember all of them, and then I discovered you could also download anime. (This was like 8 years ago and my laptop had 12 gigs of memory), and so I would download and delete manga and anime until I came across a couple 12 and 24 episode anime, (which I think was fate/stay night, and card captor sakura manga, Hikaru no go manga, and sola) which I didn't want to delete. Then I found out about high quality stuff, but my crappy laptop couldn't even display the video, just a black screen. etc.etc. Now I'm here.

During primary school and the early years of high school i watched a cartoon program called "Cheez TV" before i left home in the morning. The shows that they had on were dragonball z, sailor moon, beyblades, pokemon, digimon and some other american cartoons. I also saw the odd episode of neon genesis evangelion on TV (channel SBS).

Back then i had no idea what anime was and never heard of it. Then one day during lunch time when i was in year 10 a friend just happened to have a couple of dvd discs returned to him. He then lent them to me saying that they had anime on them and told me to watch them. That very night i started on the first disc which happened to be love hina, i enjoyed it so much that i had my first anime marathon over the next couple of nights. The other series on the dvds were onegai teacher and naruto (eps 1-62).

After i finished all the episodes i went online to see where i could get more naruto episodes as i couldn't wait to see what happened next. i found a direct download site for naruto and that was how i discovered the world of fansubs. after discovering that there were many other anime titles out there, i continued searching for other anime to download. i eventually learned how to use torrents and mirc to download anime. i went to my first anime convention that year as well and my anime collection has grown ever since

As for manga i started with scanlations about a few months after i discovered anime. i then moved to books when i discovered where i could actually buy them from. i prefer reading the books as i am not tied to my desk.
