I watched some anime as a kid ( Moomins, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Digimon, etc...) but what really got me into anime was X 1999.

I just started to watch anime couple months ago, registered on some forum and saw anime topic. I remembered that I saw X 1999 on the VIVA or MTV as a kid so I started watching it.

My cousin told me about Love Hina, which he had read a volume in his school library once (and surprisingly enough he doesn't watch anime at all except for a random episode I show him here and there and DBZ), and I looked it up online and found online readers, but not a single one had a full volume so I read partial volumes until I got so hooked and desperate I stumbled upon Torrents. Big mistake. After that I just read so many manga, that I don't even remember all of them, and then I discovered you could also download anime. (This was like 8 years ago and my laptop had 12 gigs of memory), and so I would download and delete manga and anime until I came across a couple 12 and 24 episode anime, (which I think was fate/stay night, and card captor sakura manga, Hikaru no go manga, and sola) which I didn't want to delete. Then I found out about high quality stuff, but my crappy laptop couldn't even display the video, just a black screen. etc.etc. Now I'm here.

thats a big pat on the head for your dedication, l only delete from hdd when l burn dvds, l started with mangas but it became a pain to read them since it took me so littke time, l preffer anime since l like most op ed songs l hear, my favorite op song is from Spice and Wolf, and my fav ending song is the same series :D "Wolf Whistling Song" is so cool ^^

During primary school and the early years of high school i watched a cartoon program called "Cheez TV" before i left home in the morning. The shows that they had on were dragonball z, sailor moon, beyblades, pokemon, digimon and some other american cartoons. I also saw the odd episode of neon genesis evangelion on TV (channel SBS).

Back then i had no idea what anime was and never heard of it. Then one day during lunch time when i was in year 10 a friend just happened to have a couple of dvd discs returned to him. He then lent them to me saying that they had anime on them and told me to watch them. That very night i started on the first disc which happened to be love hina, i enjoyed it so much that i had my first anime marathon over the next couple of nights. The other series on the dvds were onegai teacher and naruto (eps 1-62).

After i finished all the episodes i went online to see where i could get more naruto episodes as i couldn't wait to see what happened next. i found a direct download site for naruto and that was how i discovered the world of fansubs. after discovering that there were many other anime titles out there, i continued searching for other anime to download. i eventually learned how to use torrents and mirc to download anime. i went to my first anime convention that year as well and my anime collection has grown ever since

As for manga i started with scanlations about a few months after i discovered anime. i then moved to books when i discovered where i could actually buy them from. i prefer reading the books as i am not tied to my desk.

The user with the most anime titles in AniDB has 4266. It must be more than that.

um... i'd have to say my friends are the one's who got me into anime.
at first i was only into Naruto. it was, at the time, a way to escape from reality. that's how i saw it.
but then they introduced me to Bleach and Death Note. both amazing!
then during one of our anime club meetings at school, i told them i that don't really know much anime.
so before we left for summer break a year ago they gave me a list with almost 200 titles of different animes and mangas.
during class they'd pass around the list and add more and more.
so i'm now currently workin on that list.
i think i've finished almost 20 of them.
then earlier this year my boyfriend (who is also into anime) gave me 100GB of anime.
i now have about 10 anime series on my hard drive. i'm workin on those now as well.
so yea... i blame my friends and my boyfriend for getting me to love anime.  :D
not a bad thing at all. lmao ;D

Very similar story here, well exactly the same even down to love hina being the first anime i watched after my cheese tv days. Though i found it randomly on a pc mag disk from a couple of years ago. And even onegai teacher was my second anime series i started watching. But that regrettably got me to watch onegai twins sigh.

Havnt got into manga or books yet, but i would like to. Where do you buy your manga/books from since im sure you live in the same country and possibly even the same state considering you had the same anime on. Yer, not sitting infront of a bad ergonomic computer for to long is something i dont want to do again after my WOW days and twice a disk in my neck slipping(FN painfull for 2 weeks)

Perhaps because of the storyline. Scooby or powerpuff have a light theme. Maybe because it's for children.
But from anime, I can find the type that I really want to watch. From a simple joke to a hard to swallow story. :)

I would say I was into anime from when i was a little kid even though i did not really know what it was, i watched shows like Sailor Moon and Pokemon and all those. I then started to watch anime on tv on cartoon network's toonami and everything. After watching all the anime on tv i was addicted and started to download a lot of anime online and watch it on my computer and read a lot and a lot of manga. Since then i have been addicted.

I'd seen lots of anime films that were on late night sci-fi once a week, i suppose i was just impressed at the level of violence in a catoon. But it was really Mecha that got me into anime, loved transformers as a kid, then gundam wing came on TV which also led to dragonball z. Loving it came from watching escaflowne for the huge adventure of it all and coyboy bebop which was so freakin' cool.

I just love Ghibli and Nippon Animation's drawing style. theme or story is not a big deal to me.

A friend kept on bugging me about watching FMA... which I did and it was really good (at the time), then I just jumped from one series to another, but I still have a lot to watch.

For my tenth birthday, my older sister bought me a set of Studio Ghibli video tapes. After watching Spirited Away, I was hooked. I'm so happy that my sister always gets random, eccentric, and awesome gifts.

I just noticed that Love Hina gets a lot of people into anime....

It's not popular enough that everybody knows it (like DBZ), but just enough that it gets around.

I really became interested after watching Rurouni Kenshin on Toonami when it actually had semi-good shows.
