What really got you into anime?

--- Quote from: darren42 on June 16, 2009, 11:52:10 AM ---During primary school and the early years of high school i watched a cartoon program called "Cheez TV" before i left home in the morning. The shows that they had on were dragonball z, sailor moon, beyblades, pokemon, digimon and some other american cartoons. I also saw the odd episode of neon genesis evangelion on TV (channel SBS).
Back then i had no idea what anime was and never heard of it. Then one day during lunch time when i was in year 10 a friend just happened to have a couple of dvd discs returned to him. He then lent them to me saying that they had anime on them and told me to watch them. That very night i started on the first disc which happened to be love hina, i enjoyed it so much that i had my first anime marathon over the next couple of nights. The other series on the dvds were onegai teacher and naruto (eps 1-62).
After i finished all the episodes i went online to see where i could get more naruto episodes as i couldn't wait to see what happened next. i found a direct download site for naruto and that was how i discovered the world of fansubs. after discovering that there were many other anime titles out there, i continued searching for other anime to download. i eventually learned how to use torrents and mirc to download anime. i went to my first anime convention that year as well and my anime collection has grown ever since
As for manga i started with scanlations about a few months after i discovered anime. i then moved to books when i discovered where i could actually buy them from. i prefer reading the books as i am not tied to my desk.

Very similar story here, well exactly the same even down to love hina being the first anime i watched after my cheese tv days. Though i found it randomly on a pc mag disk from a couple of years ago. And even onegai teacher was my second anime series i started watching. But that regrettably got me to watch onegai twins sigh.
Havnt got into manga or books yet, but i would like to. Where do you buy your manga/books from since im sure you live in the same country and possibly even the same state considering you had the same anime on. Yer, not sitting infront of a bad ergonomic computer for to long is something i dont want to do again after my WOW days and twice a disk in my neck slipping(FN painfull for 2 weeks)

Perhaps because of the storyline. Scooby or powerpuff have a light theme. Maybe because it's for children.
But from anime, I can find the type that I really want to watch. From a simple joke to a hard to swallow story. :)

I would say I was into anime from when i was a little kid even though i did not really know what it was, i watched shows like Sailor Moon and Pokemon and all those. I then started to watch anime on tv on cartoon network's toonami and everything. After watching all the anime on tv i was addicted and started to download a lot of anime online and watch it on my computer and read a lot and a lot of manga. Since then i have been addicted.

I'd seen lots of anime films that were on late night sci-fi once a week, i suppose i was just impressed at the level of violence in a catoon. But it was really Mecha that got me into anime, loved transformers as a kid, then gundam wing came on TV which also led to dragonball z. Loving it came from watching escaflowne for the huge adventure of it all and coyboy bebop which was so freakin' cool.
