I beg to differ. Originally, the Moomin aired in Japan in the beginning of the 70s, and the show was vastly different from the ones produced twenty years later - so different, in fact, that Tove Jansson agreed it to be aired on the condition that it wouldn't be distributed outside Japan.

The newest Moomin series, the Japanese/Finnish version, aired in 1990 and was followed by a one-season sequel as well as a movie. This 're-make' is credited to be the one that sparked the popularity in Finland, Japan, and in other countries. According to wiki, no other series have been created in Japan since, so I think it's safe to assume that we watched the same series as the Japanese (with different dubs, of course) when we were children.

The slight difference in art Daggerlite mentioned might be just due the fact that the art of the original series changed in the last twenty chapters or so, making it slightly more 'anime-like'.

Haha, Moomin has to be one of the greatest series there is!
I remember watching it when i was a kid. It was on Swedish and the characters had a finnish accent.
It written by a Finnish female writer named Tove Jansson. May she rest in peace. :)

Just to clarify: I wrote that the art style was very similar from what I could remember, not different. I didn't want to claim they were the same, since my memory isn't too clear on that point.

but now when you are older I'm sure you might say: "No that couldnt be ANIME?!?" Its just so funny to think how animes has been changed from 'those old days'

Well yea.. When i was something around 10-12 year old it runned on TV Sailor Moon on SWEDISH DUB! :D and it was really funny to watch it..

But it was pretty normal that all those old 'animes' were dubbed into your own language. :P

Did also watch Sailor Moon on Swedish TV4 back in the days, though was considered a Kids Cartoon back then much like Pokemon some years later. Think anime still ain't relly considered "mature" over here as it is an "cartoon" :(
