WTF?!?!? IT IS ANIME?!?
sapiens:
Oh, I just remembered this.
Which cartoon made me say: "it is anime?! WTF?!"
Answer: the Thunder-fucking-cats
Thundercats
This series may have been produced entirely in the US, thus making it by definition non-anime, but it definitely has some anime influence.
I just want you to remember a few things about this series:
* Colorful, bright, fast paced, good animation in the opening.
* Some really good drawings of structures, castles, pyramids, the ending, and in general, backgrounds of stuff.
* Transformation-like sequences when Lion-O uses his sword, or Mumm-Ra transforms, and similar events. These sequences always had a distinctly better animation.
* Starts with monster-of-day episodes, and eventually evolves to an epic plot involving space traveling to rebuild their home planet.
* Epic battles with Mumm-Ra, who once or twice becomes giant and almost crushes the cats, but is defeated, and the ancient gods decide to punish him... but he returns of course!
* A lot of technological gadgets.
* Look at the credits, there are some people with Japanese names! Probably influenced the whole thing!
I never considered the Thundercats as anime, however it definitely stood out.
It was only recently that I rewatched some of the episodes and realized those points I mentioned above.

This looks interesting .. http://wonderduck.mu.nu/ducks_in_anime/the_greatest_anime_ever.
52 episodes from 1989, a hot african girl duck with neck extension rings, battling adolph hitler, it sounds fascinating.

Based on the name of this group, it appears to be associated with BoxTorrents. Now that's it's BakaTorrents do you know if the group revived under some kind of "BakaFansubs" label?
Tiffanys:
I never knew Speed Racer was an Anime for the longest time. And hell, the only reason I knew that Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Gundam Wing were Anime was because that's what it was called on Cartoon Network, during Toonami or something.
Looking at this list sure brings back memories: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toonami#Programs_list
I must have stopped watching it before 2000 though, cause I never saw any of those except Gundam Wing.
Nikkoru:
I'm unclear as to what Transformers was anime was what wasn't. I know some of it is produced in Japan... I think it was at least.
Oh, we had Cybersix on television here a few years ago -- apparently it's anime? It's on Baka anyways.
Mistgun_Zero:
Pokemon, I always thought those were cartoons
