« on: May 23, 2009, 06:45:40 PM »
Over a month and two weeks, and still running with 0 problems. Been using it everyday for PhotoShop works, surfing internet, download/uploading on uTorrent, updating website, and playing a heaps load of anime and I've done a bunch of encoding for test purposes.

OS -- Vista Ultimate 64-bit, last time updated was before the last restart.
Specs -- Quad 2 Core, 8GB Ram DC Supported, 2x 8800 GT SC SLI-Enabled.

I believe I left a system running for 8 months or so. I don't remember.

I used it as a router.

Over a year and it's still on until now. I'm using it as a fileserver. The last time it was off was when power was during during a strong typhoon.

The computer runs on linux (RHEL).

My most recent build has only reboot once since construction due to a bug in ps3 media server.  So one reboot in a 6 month period.  And that's with vista x64.

Longest, I think, was on my now-ancient indigo 400mhz CRT iMac G3. Thing was a tank. I think it was running either OS X 10.2 or 10.3 at the time, and even with daily use it was still stable after running for four months straight. Only reason I restarted is because an OS update came out.

A couple of years I left my old computer on; however, I usually jammed the sleep mode button on my keyboard before going to sleep every night. Currently I am leaving my comp on about 3-4 months at a time, but eventually I have to turn it off when I go from college to home.

My fileserver is up all the time, but I think the longest it's stayed up is 4 or so months.  I have to unplug it to clean the living room to my standards, plus I usually restart it for kernel updates.

I don't leave my other computers on overnight because it's a waste of energy, and they only take ~30 seconds to get up and running.

I use Arch Linux on everything that I can.

the most time i had it up was when i had the old 1/2 mega line, it was slow and i had to keep the comp running for 2 or 3 days. Not that its a lot, but i tend to close my comp often.

My Vista machine has a counter in the sidebar that currently reads 107 days up. I don't know if that is a record though.
My file server running Windows Server 2003 only gets restarted for power outages, but has otherwise been running non-stop since 2005.
My XP machine at work gets rebooted every few days because of all the shitty applications I have to run that stop working unless I reboot. Windows itself doesn't have any issues.
I once had Windows 98 run for a week straight without crashing. I was quite proud of that.

I don't have a dedicated server or torrent machine, so I leave the desktop on for a week or two when I'm torrenting. Call me old fashioned,  but I usually turn things off when I don't need them.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

I leave my computers on all the time.  Why I never cared for claims on shorter boot times....since it's done once in a blue moon.

But I can't help installing new things that require a reboot, even windows upgrades require a reboot now and then.  Other than that, Windows 7 is pretty stable.  My XP system often required a reboot after long WoW/gaming sessions and general use.  Though I don't think I've rebooted it since I've shared it's drives and it just sits there :)

Turned on or uptime (without reboots?)

My server (and PVR) and its hard drives, short of cleaning and software/hardware upgrades, has been powered up 24/7 for probably 5-6 years now - ever since it was put together.  My hard drives show it (I can see some of my hard drives having several years power-on-hours).

As for without reboots, I've seen 6 month stretches or so when I don't need reboots, but I do reboot because of the software upgrade aspect.

Most of my other machines get turned on and off upon demand, I don't leave them on unless they're doing something or I forget...

Monitors, however, get turned off if I remember, when I'm not there.

My old dedicated linux box (a 166 Mhz pentium running Red Hat) set a record for me of a little over 3 years of continuous uptime. It ended when we had a power outage and it drained my UPS.  :'(

eh, my laptop ive been running more or less continuously for the past 8 months. the only times it goes down is when i accidentially unplug it and i run the battery down. Ive now got a program that throttles the core from 2ghz to 800mhz so i know instantly that im on my battery.

I remember seeing a topic on this forum that someone had his computer running for years (Linux). Had to stop for some kernel updates.

I'm gonna have to actually shut off my computer and clean the CPU fan from all the dust I noticed a month ago, I won't do it till June tho'. It helps to keep a healthy CPU running.

Longest I've kept this sytem on is a month (P4 [yes, a P4 HT :( ]XP system from 05 or 06), give or take a week. Rebooting is a small hassle, involving stuff like irc server joining / identifying and the like, and getting various programs going again ect. Once the number of things needing a reboot get high enough (programs, antivirus scanning, updating) then I'll reboot. I don't have any kind of simple low power machine to keep running for handling irc, p2p, and the like, but once I do I can start powering off this system.

Ahh there is so much I'm planning to do once I get the money. Until then this rig is pleanty capable :)
I speedrun games.

how much power does the current rig pull?
