My desktop runs WinXP 24/7 because it's a file server for all of my anime, music, and movies. It goes down quite frequently because I have automatic updates enabled. However all of my stuff automatically starts as services so I usually don't notice for a day or two until I want to sit down and game a bit ^_^ For a while it was running Arch Linux though and it didn't have a second of downtime for like 6 months. Oh, and my router & modem both currently have an uptime of 9 months (the power went out.)
Nice

my laptop has now been running for about 3 weeks now nonstop. Ram usage has steadily been climbing the entire time too, but i think that can be blamed on firefox with the 640Mb and growing footprint xD

same here.my lenovo Y410 laptop, running on vista+bitcomet 0.64 now has reached 3month and 12 days uptime.without any cooling pad,and still work tirelessly.

think to give some rest and windows update to that laptop a.k.a torrent slave next week.

Sigh, if windows updates didn't come monthly *sigh*. I've always only owned the one computer I do everything on (which changes through time), so about 2 months and 3 weeks, then I had to restart due to the ~15 things that had wanted a system restart at that point...

How do you guys keep it up so long? I go for one week and I'm already tempted to do a restart, which I did.

simple, we ignore updates and try not to fuck our computers up in the meantime. thats all i do and i can maintain my computer being up for up to 3 months before resources and/or certain processes begin to become strained, and i have to do a full restart before a BSOD strikes

only thing that shuts my computer down at work is power outages once every 2 or 3 months my pc at home has been goin strong for a couple months without restart now.

And as far as keeping them up and running, i dont use virus or spyware scanners, i hardly ever windows update except when i do fresh installs, and then use noscript and adblocker and popupblocker on firefox.

Combined with common sense i never really need restarts except video card drivers

I dunno about Windows, but *nix-based systems don't seem to get clogged up/slowed down too easily, so basically all I do is use the computer like I always do... nothing particularly special. Even when something IS acting odd/sluggish, many times a simple logout and relogin will fix it.

37 days. That was on an actively-used PC running Kubuntu Linux. At the 37 day mark, the whole damn system froze up and I ended up rebooting. I recently managed to go about a month on the same system, but eventually rebooted of my own accord when a kernel update needed applying.

I do the same thing as you, except I do the windows updates as well. After running anti virus for four years without a single correct hit I simply un-installed it...

with vista and windows 7, shit became much easier. i bet windows 7 is a lot better than vista on handling tasks and even when you get back after couple of hours, at least it is not a fucking dead computer like on windows xp.

i update every 1-3 months, only once. updates help improve your computer's stability and performance. and best of all, CLEAN YOUR COMPUTER FROM INSIDE, the fans, everything, take that dust out! and thats how you can keep your computer healthy and it can run for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaays, weeks, months without a restart.

I think the longest I've had my computer on was for roughly three months.

3-4 months. Mac OSX can run forever, if it wasn't for those pesky updates that require a restart.

Seriously though, a restart to update Safari? COME ON!
