maison ikkoku (episode 40 ...the rock episode on christmas)

this episode  although it starts a huge turning point in the anime...i think is not even part of the manga...

can anyone confirm this...basically i wanna know if this episode is a filler...although it is a great episode none the less


heck i even found out that an actual Character has been completely taken out of the manga
