So, I'm watching Mai HiME...

And I must be freakin missing something. I felt better about Final Fantasy Unlimited than I do about this show eight episodes in.

So far, I feel like it's lacking character development, explanation and a good haircut for Mikoto.

(click to show/hide)I'm just not getting why I'm supposed to care about Mikoto or Natsuki. They never really bonded, they just got thrown together and it's like "BFF!" seriously, what the heck?

(click to show/hide)So, some chick's child, guardian thing just died and her Boyfriend died.. well, that sucks, I suppose, but since I don't care about her, why should I care about him? It's been thrown together. And Mai, What in the world? She gets these powers, I understand, and then she just freakin masters them without even trying, and there's a mention in an episode about her not being able to control her guardian. WHAT? The guardian has been in one episode, and seemed fine to her command. what do you mean, "You can't control it"? There's been people that are obviously supposed to be "important" But I've seen them a couple other times, and they don't seem to do much, and I'm supposed to care? WTF?
And the haircut is self explanatory.

One more gripe. What's with Mai and Tate, they obviously have something going on, but they're at odds with each other, and it just seems very convenient how she RUNS into his arms when he says she has a spider on her back.. What in the world? Nothing is adding up and I've watched eight episodes, am I missing something?

I often don't care for characters, when I know that the show is meant to do so.  Especially when they use emo male protagonists.

But keep watching, the latter half is worth it.

Because the last episode will ruin everything that was being built up ... That's why. I would have increased the intensity and broadened the story with more bloodshed. Doing a 360 on the viewer and rushing it is stupid. Specially for an anime like this where the seriousness was too good, almost as good as School Days and KgNE ... but well ...
