I managed to verify and do maintenance on each of the 21 boat-accessible geocaches I placed overhanging the edge of Blackstrap Lake.
I did this with a 12-foot recreational kayak. I was being blown toward each geocache on my way out. To get to the last one I had to paddle through and over some pack ice that was on the verge of breaking up, having to break through thin ice sheets with my paddle to get any traction and depending on the shape of the hull and forward momentum to break through some unbroken sheets.
On the way back, the wind had picked up. I was paddling directly into it with whitecaps breaking over the bow deck. It was a hell of a lot of cool, wet fun an I got quite a workout. All in all, it was around an 8 km round trip, so not terribly far.
