^ I get the feeling that I'm the only anime fan over here who is fully content with eating smashed potatoes and meatball sauce....
....it actually is my fav food ever....

Eventually, I noticed that the rice I'd bought was a sweet rice instead of the regular stuff.
I'd done things right, but with the wrong kind of rice.

Make mochi with it!
I want some sweet rice :( I always want to order it but shipping rice costs more than the rice itself

On a similar note, I've begun soaking azuki beans tonight. I plan to make anko (red bean paste) tomorrow.

Sometimes you sound older than me.
OT; Walked up on the mountain by feet, on the snow, and slided down on feet and butt. It was exhausting, good workout and great fun;)

Sounds tasty. *mouths watering* Even though I am getting better at cooking, I still feel jelly and wish I could cook like a chef.

It just takes practice. For example, don't know how many times I messed up my bread... It would fall in the oven, or not be elastic, or be too dry. Now I've gotten better at baking bread-- how hot the water needs to be for the yeast, how to make it more flavorful, etc, but I'm no expert and I still make mistakes. It's a learning process.

Put more water and steam it a little extra.

And stir it.
