Elfen Lied/Excel Saga

I noticed that the dog in Elfen Lied, Wanta, looks a lot like Menchi from Excel Saga.  Maybe Wanta is Mayu's emergency food supply? ;D 
Lucy's catchphrase "nyu" is also used in Excel Saga a couple of times.  Since Excel is satirical I'm guessing it was inspired by something else.  Coincidence or did this come from something else?

It's not unexpected I mean Excel uses a lot of other anime references in a messed up kind of way...

Excel Saga is older than Elfen Lied, so whatever similarity you draw between them is likely coincidence.

Most of the major staffs seem unrelated too.

I'm aware, which is why I find it funny that they would give a starving runaway a dog that looks so much like Menchi.  That anime is so completely unamusing that I'm sure it is unintentional. 

As for "nyu," I don't know how many times we heard that in Elfen Lied, but I can't find any explanation as to where it came from.

The phrase 'nyu' might be the Japanese spelling of the word 'new'. As for why Lucy/Nyu keeps repeating it, it might be because of her subsconscious desire to start her life again - start anew.

Or it could be just a coincidence.
