quite a few are amusing, but FMP Fumoffu and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are the only hilarious ones that comes to mind at the minute

I agree. $:-\$ I've never been able to sit through a full episode, though I've tried several times because so many people I know seem to love it, and they're always referencing it.

I agree with some of the ones already mentioned, like Azumanga Daiou, Lucky Star and good olde Haruhi, but for some side-splitting humor I rate Ninja Nonsense very high. Some of the scenes with Onsokumaru caused me to laugh till my sides hurt and that doesn't happen often nowadays.

(/edit:) @keri - give Azumanga Diaou another chance. I've known people whose opinion I respect refer to it as the Legendary AD. I'm not sure I'd put it into that category, but I'll admit it not only made me at least simile a lot, it tugged the olde heartstrings especially when Sakaki

and then I'm going to recommend Muteki Kanban Musume, and Dai Mahou Touge. People really should watch these 2 shows, as they are really under-rated.

Do you think it would work better to start with the first episode? I mean, the first time I tried watching it, a few years ago, it was the first episode, but I got bored after a few minutes and wandered off to do something else. The next few times, it was just whatever episode was linked to, or what was available with Comcast OnDemand. (Though since AnimeNetwork isn't there anymore, I can't just try it there.)

Also, related to Chobits - I originally got into that series because of the comedy with Chii and Sumomo, and probably wouldn't have carried on watching it if it hadn't started out like that. Ditto with Inukami! being on crack the first half but slightly less crack (and more srsbzns) the second half. So I don't know if I'd put those two down as "hilarious" since the endings are so very much not hilarious. If that makes sense.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi was fun
FLCL -so random it hurt
School Rumble- though the characters never being able to confess gets a little old, it has many funny moments.
Gintama-I have read far more of the manga, but what I have seen of the anime keeps the humor intact.
There are more, but that will do for now.
Minami-ke- from the first episode on there are many funny moments. Even my sister, who is not a real anime fan, was laughing at many of the scenes.

I just started watching Kanokon, but I've been laughing myself to tears already and I'm only on episode 3. Definitely the most ecchi anime I've ever seen. So far the entire show is just 2 extremely horny hotties seducing this nice little boy. He's trying his best to do the right thing, but when you have boobs shoved in your face 24/7 it's kinda hard lol..

Another hilarious anime I watched was Seto no Hanayome. All the gags were great and I loved whenever Nagasumi's heart crumbled when Masa merely talked to him (Masa was accidentally his first kiss, so Nagasumi has a soft spot for him even though he's a dude.. lol)

Excel Saga
Suzumiya Haruhi no Juutsu
Amaenaideyo! (a little weird the story but it's not that bad XD)

and some others, those are the ones that I can remember right now XD
