--- Quote ---2. Why do you use BxT? What do you like about it? (as a standalone community, but also – what do you like about it better than using alternative sites to obtain torrents?)
--- End quote ---
I'm using BxT mainly to get older encodes (which tend to be dead torrents elsewhere), exclusive encodes (e.g. 3xR and neo1024), and rarer torrents (chilibert). It is also noticeably faster downloading from BxT than from elsewhere.
--- Quote ---3. What are your feelings concerning the online community of BxT?
--- End quote ---
In general, they tend to be more helpful than on many other forums and sites I've been. I'll keep it at that, since if I go on it would easily fill at least 10 paragraphs.
--- Quote ---5. Would you still use BxT if it was a either: a paid service, or the site contained ads?
--- End quote ---
There used to be ads here, lol... until they started triggering browser warnings. As a paid service, if it is cheap enough I would probably still use it.
--- Quote ---6. Have you donated to BxT? Would you donate if you could? Would/Do you choose to donate your time to helping build the community of BxT as a way to contribute instead, if you don’t have the financial means to donate?
--- End quote ---
Time contribution is enough for me :)
--- Quote ---8. If BxT were to disappear, how would that make you feel? What would you do to replace the service and community that you lost?
--- End quote ---
That would be terrible :\ I don't have the time and resources to do what Box did, but we still have the IRC channel to get something organised ;)
--- Quote ---9. How do you feel about Crunchyroll? If you are familiar with Crunchyroll’s draconian Terms of Service in relation to user donated subtitling services, what are your thoughts on that?
--- End quote ---
Crunchyroll serves a need, and I'm not going to say too much about that. But I will never watch anime on Youtube/Crunchyroll, unless it's just a short snippet of it.
As for draconian ToS, that's pretty much a given almost anywhere. It's sad that site-users let themselves be screwed over by it, and I'm glad Facebook revised their ToS after that little brouhaha. It's absurd that service-providers think they can get away with such things, and personally I think there should be fair-use clauses in the legal system that allows people to contest such ToS.

Arigatou for splitting this off xchiamiov!

--- Quote ---1. What is your back story? How did you get into anime?
--- End quote ---
I first starting watching anime back when it was on the Sci-fi channel, a long time back. Then toonami/Adult Swim came along, and I started watching there. And fairly recently I've been downloading anime online.
--- Quote ---2. Why do you use BxT? What do you like about it? (as a standalone community, but also – what do you like about it better than using alternative sites to obtain torrents?)
--- End quote ---
I simply love BxT. From what I've seen, BxT has the largest selection of the highest quality anime available, all of which is well seeded. It doesn't get any better than that. Other alternatives are typically not as well-seeded or aren't seeded at all... and are of lesser quality.
--- Quote ---3. What are your feelings concerning the online community of BxT?
--- End quote ---
The community here is great, as long as you're not an idiot and can read the rules/guidelines. Everyone is very helpful (usually :D)
--- Quote ---4. What is your personal view of the fact that BxT operates simultaneously as a public and private tracker?
--- End quote ---
I'm neither here nor there about it. It seems to work well, that's what matters.
--- Quote ---5. Would you still use BxT if it was a either: a paid service, or the site contained ads?
--- End quote ---
If it was a monthly charge, or a small fee per download, yes. If it went beyond that, probably not :-\ Ads don't bother me at all.
--- Quote ---6. Have you donated to BxT? Would you donate if you could? Would/Do you choose to donate your time to helping build the community of BxT as a way to contribute instead, if you don’t have the financial means to donate?
--- End quote ---
I have not donated as of yet. When I'm not financially strapped for cash, I do intend to donate. I'd like this place to be around for a very long time, and I'd like to do my part to keep it running. But I'm always lurking around the recommendations board, giving my two cents on what I think they'd like. Recommending "School Days" to everyone is a blast. (Right Tatsu? ;))
--- Quote ---8. If BxT were to disappear, how would that make you feel? What would you do to replace the service and community that you lost?
--- End quote ---
I'd seriously cry. Even putting all the other places together doesn't match up to BxT. The loss of the people here and the amazingly well-seeded torrent selection would pretty much kill my desire to download anime online.
--- Quote ---9. How do you feel about Crunchyroll? If you are familiar with Crunchyroll’s draconian Terms of Service in relation to user donated subtitling services, what are your thoughts on that?
--- End quote ---
I used Crunchyroll to watch the first few episodes of Shangri-la a while back, but then stopped and decided to watch for the series to finish up first. I have not signed up to the site, nor do I intend to so I cannot comment on their ToS. But I don't have an issue with their subtitling practices.
quekmeister:
1. What is your back story? How did you get into anime?
I started watching anime when it aired on TV, Transformers was extremely popular among my friends back in '94. I only started watching seriously in 2006/7, I think, when I discovered Ghost in the Shell (and subsequently fansubs).
2. Why do you use BxT? What do you like about it? (as a standalone community, but also – what do you like about it better than using alternative sites to obtain torrents?)
BxT to me is practically all about the community, since I usually obtain torrents from other places so as not to ruin my ratio (an important thing here). However, it is an excellent place to find rare and old series which would be impossible to get anywhere else.
3. What are your feelings concerning the online community of BxT?
I don't have many friends outside of the internet who watch anime (regardless of my efforts to convert them), so I enjoy being able to discuss anime-related things with like-minded people. Of course, that's not to say it's all I talk about.
One thing I really love about not just BxT, but the internet in general is the diversity of the people you meet. BxT is just lucky that most of the user base (in the forum at least) are not mouth breathing cretins.
4. What is your personal view of the fact that BxT operates simultaneously as a public and private tracker?
I'm not sure what to say here.... I like the fact that it's an open user base, since this means there's always leeching going on, which is good for the actual members.
5. Would you still use BxT if it was a either: a paid service, or the site contained ads?
I don't mind ads, but I would have to seriously consider my continued usage depending on the amount I'd have to pay. If it was less than my average cellphone bill, I'd probably pay.
6. Have you donated to BxT? Would you donate if you could? Would/Do you choose to donate your time to helping build the community of BxT as a way to contribute instead, if you don’t have the financial means to donate?
I have not donated. I would if I could. Yes.
7. To Adopters of torrents – What motivated you to do this?
I believe it is the same motivation that pushes uploaders to create torrents in the first place. At some level, it is for reputation, but it's also a way of spreading the love, so to speak.
8. If BxT were to disappear, how would that make you feel? What would you do to replace the service and community that you lost?
I would be pretty sad, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'd hope some of the staff would come together and jump start the community, but even if they didn't, I'd be able to move on.
9. How do you feel about Crunchyroll? If you are familiar with Crunchyroll’s draconian Terms of Service in relation to user donated subtitling services, what are your thoughts on that?
I've honestly never used Crunchyroll, since at this point it doesn't host any series that interest me. I've just read their ToS, and it seems quite restrictive, the part I don't agree with is where any uploaded content becomes theirs to modify and distribute without limitation (if I've read that right, it's the bit you call draconian?).
However, I feel that anyone who chooses to use a website should have read the ToS for themselves, and if they didn't and disagree with it later, well, that's their problem.

basically Toonami/Adult Swim is what got me started.
--- Quote ---2. Why do you use BxT? What do you like about it? (as a standalone community, but also – what do you like about it better than using alternative sites to obtain torrents?)
--- End quote ---
It is so damn easy. Everything is packed nice and neatly in one torrent and you don't have to spend the time tracking down a subber, their irc channel, and messing with bots downloading an anime 24 times to get the whole thing.
--- Quote ---3. What are your feelings concerning the online community of BxT?
--- End quote ---
overall pretty awesome. However I don't belong to any other dedicated anime communities, so I can't compare.
--- Quote ---4. What is your personal view of the fact that BxT operates simultaneously as a public and private tracker?
--- End quote ---
I don't know. If I had some statistics on the amount an unregistered user seeds I would probably be a bit more vocal.
--- Quote ---5. Would you still use BxT if it was a either: a paid service, or the site contained ads?
--- End quote ---
I don't know about paid, but they used to have ads, so I don't see anything wrong with them
--- Quote ---6. Have you donated to BxT? Would you donate if you could? Would/Do you choose to donate your time to helping build the community of BxT as a way to contribute instead, if you don’t have the financial means to donate?
--- End quote ---
I have not, but I don't really have the money to spend. So instead I help out by working with the subgroup and seeding
--- Quote ---7. To Adopters of torrents – What motivated you to do this?
--- End quote ---
I would love to adopt torrents, but I just don't really have the ability to do it (IMO)
--- Quote ---8. If BxT were to disappear, how would that make you feel? What would you do to replace the service and community that you lost?
--- End quote ---
I would be pretty disappointed. at least 90% of my anime comes from here. I probably would try my best to look for a service that is similar and then use that, or maybe just watch anime from the few group websites that i visit.
--- Quote ---9. How do you feel about Crunchyroll? If you are familiar with Crunchyroll’s draconian Terms of Service in relation to user donated subtitling services, what are your thoughts on that?
--- End quote ---
I don't know much about their ToS, but overall I think that Crunchyroll is on the right track. HOWEVER I will not watch streamed anime until I can have a better quality. The quality on Crunchyroll just makes me want to claw my eyes out.
