The author of the thread that has spawned this discussion was clearly enjoying Jump standard series, hence why I recommended he'd start from the beginning, since I doubt he'd find it awful.

Fair enough, I can't really put my own tastes aside when giving recommendations.

--- Quote from: Khundes on October 15, 2010, 10:59:13 PM ---Fun fact: Right now, the anime pretty much stretches a 19-pages chapter into a 22 minutes episode every week. The contents is still amazing, but to ensure the manga stays ahead and as little unnecessary filler is added in as possible (*cough*Naruto*cough*), they're stretching chapters into full episodes. I'd rather that then shitty filler arcs every other story arc.

One thing I appreciate about One Piece is that filler matter actually makes sense, stringing together scattered informations, giving hints about things to come. Now the quality can vary wildly, I consider per example the Rainbow Mist arc from the Skypeia saga to be really good whereas the Ocean Dreams arc from the CP9 saga is by no means good. Now, the same could be said about the legit arcs ... can you really say the Davy Back Fight arc is any good ?
Another thing I like is that fights, though frequent, are kept to a reasonable length which prevents them from getting overbearing. That, and the fact that they're both ridiculous and spectacular. Luffy's final move on Crocodile in the Arbasta arc, or Zoro's Ashura finale against Kaku in the Ennies Lobby arc gave me more of a "hell yeah" feeling than TTGL and both seasons of Code Geass united.
One thing I do regret is that Chopper hasn't been exploited properly yet. Not only is he my fave, but I think the character has great potential for the future.

At the time being I'm kinda reluctant to start the whole Whitebeard stuff, the excessive stretching of CP9 left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth, and i don't really want to spoil my growing pleasure following One Piece by saturating myself.
After all, critical sense isn't something you can turn off at will.

Takeshi:
Jesus Christ, I swear, yibis is only releasing their episodes when they know I've already watched HorribleSubs. :(

On a side note, totally nice to see Masakazu MORITA in a role we don't hate aka. Marco.
