worst experience when buying a box set

(1/2) > >>

My worst and first experience is when I went with my friends one day and bought the anime Negima!?

I purchased two boxed sets that each contained two DVDs. I watched the first set and looked at the covers and was drawn in by the cover art  ;D Then I looked at the cover art for the second set and was shocked... The second set I bought was a mis-packed set and contained the same disks! unfortunenate for me they were both 21-26 whereas I finished at episode 13 >:(

Luckly I still have the receipt and will go back and return it ;)

:D I think spoiler must not work when it's capitalized :o

I haven't had too many bad experiences. I bought a few box sets without having seen the series before...

Spoilers haven't been working since the latest transition, which will be fixed soon, am sure.

My worst was the Hare+Guu box set.  It came with an afro wig.  I know that the Japanese seem to really enjoy making fun of afros, but it's something I could do without, and don't consider it bonus.

As far as defects/packaging are concerned, it would have to be Grenadier. It contained a DVD case and cover for disc 3, but no disc 3. Unfortunately I didn't open it for several weeks after receiving it (I'd already seen the Lunar release), so I couldn't have returned it. Oh well, I can always just DL the last 4 episodes of a dual-audio release guilt-free.

As for bad experiences with the actual content, I'd have to say Earth Girl Arjuna, which I blind-bought. Very pretty series with great music and visuals, but it devolved into preachy nonsensical enviro-propaganda by the end. Oh well, it was only $30 or so.

EDIT: And then there was the ROD TV Vol.1 + Box, which I bought thinking it was the complete collection. Wound up being the most expensive 26-episode series I ever collected. But that was my own damn fault.

My worst experience was with an old DBZ box set (back when box sets were just a few VHS tapes thrown into a larger container). I was on the Funimation website and checking up on the newest sets that they were selling When I came across 4 new ones. I wrote down the names of them all then proceeded to pay my dad to buy 2 of them from the site. I then called up my grandma and told her that the other two were the ones I wanted for my birthday. I received the 2 I bought online and was pleased with them, then I received the two my grandma bought for me and realized they were the exact same freaking box sets just with a different name and different art. Funimation screwed me over by making me buy two box sets I didn't need, and my poor grandma had to receive the "I'm acting surprised, but I'm actually mostly disappointed" look when I opened her gift.
