I've been watching Ayako, because they are pretty good, and thier translations aren't bad at all.  Some of the image quality though breaks down during fast action i have come to knotice.  I don't know if it is how it was encoded or just the raw that was used, but it is something that sort of bugged me.

I haven't seen Taka, So I can't comment

Though If i had my choice i'd probably go with Yuurisan to put on Baka or for archiving.  The Subtitles themselves have a better font style to them, though they seem to take a little bit of liberty sometimes with the translation.  And the Ecode is pretty good also from the few I have pulled down myself.

I would say One of those two I would go with, atleast for the SD version

It seems Ayako's 720p release will be finished within the month and from what I gather those episodes will have all kind of fixes.
The SD release ([LQ-XVID+MP3]) is of reasonable quality compared to other groups?

One thing to take into account is that Yuurisan is doing the DVDs, so perhaps we might have their DVD for SD and Ayako's 720p for HD.

Taka releases 480p and 720p. Did you watch eps from all three groups to compare before going with Taka? If yes, what made you choose them?

That seems to be the only XviD/SD release, so we may as well get that uploaded now and then sort out the HD situation between Ayako/Taka/YuS when it's available.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Good point... That also brings into question is thiere going to be a blu-ray release.  Even though my machine can't handle it, I haven't seen anybody really talk about it much, though i haven't been really looking either.

I always assumed that 480p usually meant SD?

i watch 720p. i Started off with Ayako but changed to Taka, but why hmm... I dont have a solid reason really, i just like reading there translation better i guess

may also be due to the fact i watch Takas Naruto aswell and feel they do a goodjob on that, so i just decided to follow this from them aswell...i dont have any problems with Ayako though, just my preference

it does.  but SD can be 4:3 or 16:9.  480p is normally referred to as the 16:9 format, or more commonly known as widescreen.

I also have no problem with Ayako, and think they get a lot more flak than they deserve.

However, I did switch from them to Taka a few episodes in after trying them out for an episode. This was back when Ayako was still releasing HD too.  Taka seemed to have a cleaner picture, and their translation and editing seemed to have a better flow to it.

Yuurisan worries me because they do have a habit of taking liberties with their translation, which is usually meant to make it work better in english, ended up making some things sound silly, at least that's how Jigoku Shoujo was, and that wasn't too long ago.

That seems to be the only XviD/SD release, so we may as well get that uploaded now and then sort out the HD situation between Ayako/Taka/YuS when it's available.

It does, Taka's 480p is a clear winner in that department.  The Ayako xvid is exactly what it should be, a speedsub with poor image quality.  It serves it's purpose(it's what I watch the first time around), but has no place on an archiving site.

So, in my opinion it boils down to Taka and Ayako for their HD releases, but from what I've seen from Ayako's translations in their Xvid, I would rather have Taka for both definitions.

They are continuing with those.

...The HQ Releases will be continued, in 3 days we should continue with a 4-5 episode batch again, the rest of the episodes should be releasing faster after the finals end ending this week...P.S. : Yes, i know that 1 line in the first IS is fucked up, i’m sorry. I gonna fix it in the HQ release.

Doubtful I would have made my final suggestion for HD weighing Ayako into the mix if I didn't believe they were continuing it. :)

There's no blu-ray version announced as of now.

Under the Format Preferences, it's acceptable to have SD/XviD ("Group C") and SD/h264 + HD/h264 ("Group B"). There are a number of series that have I will confess that I have not seen this series so I don't know which group is better. That's why I was merely pointing out that Ayako's XviD may as well be uploaded since it's the only release of its type. Taka's SD/h264 and HD versions could still be added later once they're complete.

I guess I didn't look far enough into the h264 news article posted a little bit back.  I remember seeing that Xvid was still being accepted in a limited fashion, but in this situation I guess I just don't see the reason as to why it should be.

Taka's h264 SD is better in every regard(though they are around 25mb larger per episode).  I had thought that SD releases were allowed were to cater to people with machines that can't play 720p and up.  If that is the case, then there's simply no need for a SD Xvid when a SD h264 is out.

I just noticed Darksoul-Subs has released HD/HQ [848x480 Xvid] episodes.
Nah... Won't be taken in consideration.

Translation differences?

Details on the Format Preferences page have finally been confirmed, and now reflects our decision to slowly move towards h264 as the only codec for new anime offers (offers for older anime shows fall under one of the exceptions mentioned). For the moment Xvid torrents will still be accepted, but we hope to phase them out eventually.

Gotta start phasing out eventually, why not start here with a show that has no decent quality Xvid releases available for it?  Seems kinda silly to accept poor quality video simply because there isn't anything else.  Edit:  Because there isn't anything else offered in that specific codec, completely understood if there isn't anything offered for a release period.

As for the translation differences, I'm only a second semester Japanese student so I can't say that I'm in any way an authority.  Someone else would have to add a weighted comment about that.
