I am currently seeking to buy my first Mac, and im thinking on buying the Macbook Pro 2.9 GHz Dual Core Processor.

I know nothing of Mac OS X, and how anime runs on it.

So i clearly dont know the pro's and con's on watching anime on Mac OS X operating system. $:-\$ Please Help me :'(

I've got a Macbook Pro with a 2.4 Dual Core; I mostly use Nice Player along with VLC and MPlayer OSX Extended, and between the three of them I manage to play anything.

I use Vista and Media Player Classic with the Combined Community Codec Pack. I don't need three different players for anime, that one does 'em all.

so far im liking w7 a fair bit, at least all my stuff runs on the beta not like when vista that even when they released it no drivers worked

Vista + Klite mega codec pack + windows media player/KMplayer + proper codec configuration = peace of mind.

All in all, playback is about the same on both platforms. The only thing that will ever give you trouble, really, is the oddball weird-encoded WMV file you may run across (but WMV sucks anyway).

Install Perian on OS X and any Quicktime-enabled player will play just about anything you throw at it (short of OGMs, but they're obsolete and can be changed to MKVs anyway).

This will actually improve some with Snow Leopard and Quicktime X, since it will be able to play DivX without any additional installations. It will also take advantage of the H.264 hardware decoding that most Macs are capable of now.

I personally use Vista and WMC with CCCP. I run dual monitors so I can play the anime on my TV. If you have a video card with two outputs, I'd buy a cable and connect it to your TV if you can. If you have an HD TV, you should do it immediately. I don't think I could ever watch anime/movies on my computer monitor again.

Yup, and Windows 7 should do the same. Tho' I have never experienced Windows 7 and I have Vista Ultimate, from what everyone says about Windows 7 I'm voting for it over Vista.

Perian doesn't use libass, but instead its own subtitle rendering. 99% of the time, the subs appear just as they would in MPC w/CCCP installed, sometimes better since it uses the OS X text rendering system.

iindigo. Quicktime + Perian is NOT almost the same as MPC + CCCP/K-Lite. You even pointed out the differences yourself. Just because you can "disregard .ogg" doesn't mean some other guy will be quick to point out (Like me) that it "Doesn't work". Perian + Quicktime might work well, but it still lacks in comparison to the "true" almost perfect compatibility. (MPC + CCCP is not perfect, but still higher than perian + quicktime). In case you didn't notice, .ogg files are rampant on BKBT (oops, almost used the wrong name). Your claim of conversion while true, still is not honest towards the playback capabilities of perian + quicktime equalling MPC + cccp.

So to be true...

Perian + Quicktime will play approximately 85-90% of all "media" files you will ever run into.
MPC + CCCP will play approximately 90-95% of all "media" files you will ever run into.

Both percentages are estimated. But the big "compatibility issues" are:

.ogg
.wmv
.rm

Amongst others.

Even so, a quick right-click --> Open With --> Mplayer OSX or VLC will remedy the OGM problem. It's hardly an issue.

WMV and RM are terrible formats and should be abolished.

Those three formats (I've never seen any Real Player codec releases btw) are dying and hardly used. With the exception of a few older releases in .ogg, these formats are almost always the crappiest releases and there are better alternatives.
MPlayer OSX can actually play all formats, even the three listed above. It isn't able to switch languages in .ogm, but as these releases are rare and easily muxed into .mkv, this isn't a problem. Anyone using the program should know that # (Shift+3) changes the language and J changes the subtitles.
If you keep your media around instead of deleting immediately after watching, use Plex. I'm fairly certain it can play just about everything and it uses much more advanced codecs which utilize the Mac OSX software and hardware more efficiently.
