Blu-ray Fansubs
« on: June 24, 2009, 03:55:41 AM »
Is there a site or list of all the current (good) groups that are releasing HD Blu-ray fansubs? I know AniDB lists sources but it is a pain to look through ever group per anime, and if there is a easier option on that site I don't know it.

Or if you know a group please post link. Currently the only group I use is THORAnime, but they are starting to get overwhelmed (too many projects; lots of new HD releases) and they have acknowledged that there are animes that they will not be doing for various reasons (too many episodes; upscales).

NOTE: Please don't list groups that downscale Blu-ray releases, they are pointless.

EDIT:
Since the list of groups and projects are growing larger, I made this site to track it. Blu-ray Fansubs

I think there was a thread some time ago. Please look for it.

To answer your question: Atm I only know Thora.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I found that topic, I think, but it is not about groups. It is about Blu-ray releases in general.

CoalGirls use DVD and Blu-rays, Chihiro also provides Blu-rays. I know there is 2 more groups that solely works on Blu-ray only.

BSS (Michiko to Hatchin) and Shinsen (Casshern Sins) both have bluray projects. But both projects are being worked on by THORA.

As far as I know, Frostii will be doing K-On! in bluray and Chihiro will do bluray for Hatsukoi Limited.

I wish someone will make FMP (all) bluray rips dspite being upscales. I know there are rips floating around but they suck.

I also hope someone will do the Lupin TV series blurays.

Don't forget niizk & his Spice & Wolf blu-rays. ;)

You just had to make sure you got that one in there, didn't you? ::)

Chihiro's also doing K-On and Hayate in Blu-Ray too. ^.^

EG, Aquastar Anime, and Seto Otaku also do Blu-Rays, for what it matters. There are some Blu-Ray groups one-shot groups, although I haven't seen them complete a series yet.

3xR does Bluray too. Pretty much like what THORA does, but on a lower scale. If I recall correctly, that is radionerd's group or something like that.

I believe Frostii has plans to do K-On! and Mouryou no Hako Blu-Rays in the future.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

For people reading quick, list of know groups:

THORAnime: Long list of projects. (excellent quality)
CoalGirls: Eureka Seven (ep 1; poor source) and White Album (poor source)
niizk: Spice and Wolf
Chihiro: Several planned projects
Frostii: K-On! and others (all planned)
BiG-GuY:Air TV (stalled)
3xR: A few projects

This list is kinda sad right now. I was hoping to find at least one other THORA like group, especially since several of these groups are doing repeats.

NOTE: Please don't list groups that downscale Blu-ray releases, they are pointless.

You missed Encodergasm, which Kristen mentioned. They've done a blu-ray rip of Char's Counterattack, and are currently working on Zeta Gundam. There's also OCZ Anime, who's doing some dual-audio blu-ray rips, mostly of mecha stuff. Dunno 'bout Seto Otaku & Aquastar though.

White Album's source was indeed very bad. I remember idling in THORA several months ago when adenozin posted a screenshot of the raws. It seems like they were planning to do them but decided not to because of the source.

the eureka 7 source is incredibad too :(
there is no gain at all if you go from dvd to 1080p bluray - besides ~950mb less space (per ep!) on your harddrive :o

i prepared a little quiz for you: which one of those two screenshots is the 720p bluray encode? the other one is a 480p dvd encode.
nr. 1
nr. 2

Skipped them since they don't have an actual web site; can't see screens and for people who prefer torrent over IRC. Also OCZ Anime?? Can't find anything about them.

Yeah THORA is keen on quality, and number of anime will never appear there due to that alone (Samurai 7, Eureka 7, etc.).

I must know where you heard Mouryou no Hako. I've been waiting to hear if any group will ever finish it since Aero stalled it way back in the Fall.
