somewhatplagiarism?
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:33:14 PM »
I dont kwow if i should call it plagiarism. . .
i notice it has the same relationship as the "plagiarism" in family guy/simpsons/american dad

I was watching clannad. . .the girl with the violin, and after calculations derivatives, integrals and polar coordinates I found out that it is 94.38% similar to the story of Myself;Yourself
( I used the formula f(x) = x + x - 2x + .9438x100% ) ;D

then the twins! they are 96.78% similar to the twins in lucky star

then . . .the mood. . .it is 99.9998% similar to the one in Kanon 2006

then I think someone already mentioned it. . .but the main character always sits on the back corner (or second seat from the back) of the classroom AND has a great view of the school yard.

has anyone else noticed such similarities between plenty of animes?

Go here. It's not limited to anime, but has a lot of anime examples anyway.

Similarities between Clannad and Lucky Star are most likely coincidental, seeing how Clannad was originally a visual novel released several years ago and Lucky Star was a 4koma manga.

Almost all anime is related. Have you seen the GIGANTIC list of anime tropes? All anime falls into one or more of those tropes and there are certainly multiple series for each one. One series being like another is not at all strange as most of them fit into similar groups anyways (I mean, how many series can fall into 'slice of life' and 'romance' and not be similar?). Plagiarism is dying in today's generation because it's pretty much impossible to be completely original anymore.

Yeah, please check out tvtropes. The point is, it's not plagiarism, it's supposed to be that way.

then I think someone already mentioned it. . .but the main character always sits on the back corner (or second seat from the back) of the classroom AND has a great view of the school yard.
I brought this up on IRC at one point, and it seems pretty reasonable from what we discussed. The main character has to sit in that seat so everything important in the scene can fit into the frame (since in an anime the entire world has to be communicated through a single window: The screen). Seats in that part of the classroom are the only ones where the characters can plausibly have lengthy conversations and where the viewer will be able to see the main character, the other characters (who sit in the seats around the main one), and whatever important things are happening outside at the same time.

( I used the formula f(x) = x + x - 2x + .9438x100% ) ;D Indeed a coincidence when I think about it, but nethertheless I will always like Clannad more than Myself;Yourself!

then the twins! they are 96.78% similar to the twins in lucky star Both animated by Kyo Animation most likely just took the characters personalities and stylised them to fit the clannad style, but then again I'm not sure on the whole 'who had the original concept first' with whatever was out first. Also cameos happen in their previous animations too with Kanon characters appearing in Air

then . . .the mood. . .it is 99.9998% similar to the one in Kanon 2006 Well...this one is alittle irrelevant considering that Key produced both of these titles and since Kanon was such a success, they just went with a similiar and updated style
then I think someone already mentioned it. . .but the main character always sits on the back corner (or second seat from the back) of the classroom AND has a great view of the school yard. I recall reading up about this too but I forgot where...maybe here, wiki or even ANN (which I always check for their trivia notes)

has anyone else noticed such similarities between plenty of animes? As mentioned, nothing is original anymore, recently when I went to just skim through some scenes on Aria, I saw a character and it completely resembled a character from claymore and I was left thinking "lol quit being a claymore and change profession to become a trainee gondolier!

I'm gonna have to agree with anerph on this one, it's very difficult to find completely original works there days - and surely similarities between series isn't simply limited to anime, but is rampant throughout movies, music, and other sorts of media as well - among other things.

If you check out almost any new movie, it is bound to share some similarities to other movies - of course the extent to which it resembles a different movie varies.

You can even find the same things among popular books as well (i.e. Eragon and the whole Star Wars/LOTR similarities). A lot of it probably due to the sheer amount of media that has already been released that it is hard to be original without being completely obscure ... and unfortunately completely obscure works don't tend to be as well received.  The most original movie I probably saw in the last few years was probably Waking Life ... and although it was good, it was pretty damn weird.

On a completely random note, what character is that as your avatar bobjoe? Seems familiar, but I just can't place it ...

First of all, good point on the movie thing. Waking Life is practically what I would call experimental, which just goes to show the lengths to which a director/writer has to go to make a truly original production.

Second, how could you not recognize Mio??? It even says K-On right on her chest!
I just promised myself when I saw the version of that pic in the OP that if I found that image by itself (as in, in some other form than the OP which had other stuff on top of it) I would use it as my avatar.

I haven't seen K-On yet, that's why ... it's on my to watch list, along with about 30+ other shows, so I've only seen pics of some of the characters. And until I free up some hard drive space, or get another hard drive, I'm not gonna be able to download it ... right now I only have about 300MB free on my HD :(

generally, you seen one genre movie and you seen it all, but what do you expect, there are nearly 1 milion anime titles (excluding hentai) you expect it all to be original ?

some stories are simillar cuz some guy someplace wants to see it differently, hence new set of characters, new story, wich is quite the same.

thats why anime is so popular.

I care very little for originality anymore. If you can rip off a concept/character from an anime and do it better, kudos to you, originality be damned.

Clannad still gets credit from me for portraying quantum mechanics in a really poetic but accurate way. And also for referencing Riemann. That's rare in anime.

lolfail.

Tragedy-type shows/games are all very similar.
Fujibayashi twins and Hiiragi twins were created about the same time, though the concept was probably created by KEY before Yoshimizu Kagami began drawing. However, Lucky Star was published before CLANNAD was released.
The mood? Well well. Learn to research. Same studio, same original creator.
2nd last row, window seat. That's the trademark seat for any protagonist who gets into lots of trouble.

You sir, fail at anime.
