Special Anime?
« on: June 26, 2009, 07:25:52 AM »
Is there a anime out there where the "main character" shifts to someone else half way trough the series im not talking about an anime like shinigami no ballad / bokorano, where the main lead shifts hands every episode.

Im thinking about a anime more along the lines of tsubara chronicle / gurren laggan , where the main character isnt protected by a unbreakable plot shield and has a chance of getting a irrecoverable deathwish just like everybody else.

Does Air TV count?

Hence my question. The main char is still around, but not as the main char char, but a secondary main char who watches the main char char fail.

Air Tv(watched entire series) felt like "a eternal resurrection flashback" kind of series, not like the "haha kid you just lost your plot shield" to explain it in a better sense its like the main lead was split between the two characters.

Like the series Suzumiya haruhi, you knew the plot would stop working if Kyon or Haruhi died off.

Air tv was really good in its own way

xD exactly Masataka had all the quirks of a main character but because he had finished learning / failing / growing the main character became Souichiro Nagi

Texhnolyze had this happen with a character I thought was the main chara, but then again it's a confusing "Anyone can die" type of series.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Shuffle! in some kind of way, where you think oh this is the person of to pay attention to...then bam! Wait I was wrong!

Also ef-tale of melodies/memories has multiple main lead roles I guess but apart from the things you mentioned like Shinigami no Ballad (anime with multiple view points from other characters) and Gurren Laggann (animes where you feel that some people of the main cast are 'I am invicible to all because I am important so I will not die') anything besides that does not exist.

And I remember what I was about to type, Baccano has many main characters as it has many sub plots to form a story. Actually this falls into the Shinigami no Ballad style. Multiple lead roles...

But then again animes like those I rarely come across. I mean why would they make an anime where it would focus on ? from their(as in the lead characters role) point of view and you would eventually gain some kind of liking to that character only to have it replaced later, it totally defeats the whole 'main character' role cnocept. It would be like watching something then halfway through they decide to scrap the idea then shove something else at you in hopes you'll like it.

And just to point out Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan the lead character was always Simon and not Kamina.

But to sum it up, your looking for anime where the main characters whom are always at the focus of attention, one of them keels over.

You phrased that so well!  Seed Destiny seemed like it was written without any planning, as in a group of writers just kept writing forward without reviewing what they had written so far and revising it.  The way they totally brushed off Shinn and La Crusoe v2 (forget his real name  :D) can't really be explained otherwise.

Shura no Toki
The main character changes from season to season.

When life gives you lemons, you clone those lemons and make super lemons.

Definitely Major.

The protagonist faces seeminlgy impossible challenges and suffers numerous injuries throughout the course of each season.
