Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Right, because no one pointed any other flaws then Umineko being painfully full of clichés. No one mentioned poor direction, ridiculous dialogues, or bad animation, nope. And it's just because we're not a real hardcore japanese otaku, that we can't appreciate this wonderful work of art.
Also, bringing up Code Geass, and linking AniDB ratings totally helps your case.

I wholeheartedly agree. This is easily one of the worst series I've seen, plot and higurashi-style storytelling notwithstanding. The only enjoyable part so far has been Maria's vicious grins... and that's only because it's hilarious. Battler is the dumbest protagonist I've ever seen... who should really be the next to die.
And I don't think the characters oblivious. More like they really don't give a damn if someone was killed, just as long as it wasn't them. Although not a single one seems scared, which is bullshit. Anyone with a brain would be freaking out a little bit if you were trapped on a tiny island with a mass-murderer on the loose.
This series is failing at pretty much every level. If it keeps getting worse, it might actually be one of the best "bad" series ever! Yay ::)

I usually pass by the part with Maria screaming and rewatch it along the way. I honestly have no idea why I like that part, but I do. I really want these OSTs.

I'm not a fan of the ED, but the OP is great. The first 12 seconds or so gives me chills.

What, exactly, is arbitrary about it? Did you read the thread?
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---"If you've watched "this", "this", and "this", then this has a lot of cliches and I'm arbitrarily putting it down as a "piece of shit"."

"Ok". Let's have a quick glance at some of the issues here:
* Poor dialogue - as evidenced by character interaction. The exposition hell / information dump reitering is a crude device at best.
* Art direction - character design adaptation aside, the animation is paltry at best (glitches nonwithstanding...)
* Premise - And Then There Were None meets Faust. Yatta, I guess.
* Nondescript menagerie - While this will (hopefully) change curing the cycles, when was the last time you encountered such a bland cast?
* Poor acting - from the clearly disturbed child to the self-proclaimed information dump and the lackluster reactions of the cast, it's just lacking.
* Grating details - where Higurashi shone in the little details, Umineko does the reverse, from the epigraph to the "dramatic" announcement of imminent doom followed by flashing lightning.
* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJXMCJaZO1g - ok, so that one's below the belt ;)
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---Hell, what the fuck is so strange about Higurashi? "A bunch of people go crazy and kill each other. If you've seen this other thing where a bunch of people go crazy and kill each other, then this is cliche, and it sucks".
--- End quote ---
Yes, because Higurashi was all about the graphic violence. Honestly.
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---"Y'know, this whole world conquest thing that they're doing in Code Geass has been tried several times in history! Fucking boring!"

What - the - flying - **** does Code Geass have to do with this?
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---I don't mind a little cliche with obscure western movies/novels that I apparently never heard of.

Christie is an obscure author? I guess that makes Hitchcock obscure as well. Who, I wonder, qualifies as a renowned author then? Steven King? ::)
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---Hell, I'm sure Japanese people don't either, considering they're... y'know... Japanese. I don't think it's a poor offering by the studio, I think it's just one that isn't really as suited for a western audience... which isn't surprising, considering it's first and foremost made for Japanese otaku, not us.
--- End quote ---
Wait, Japanese have different tastes? This day is just full of fascinating revelations. I guess I must've missed a moeblob or two.
--- Quote from: xShadow on July 20, 2009, 08:44:58 PM ---Apparently most of the anidb crowd shares my hopes for this show getting better sooner or later... or maybe they don't even mind it at all as it is now. I know I don't particularly mind it.

Oh for crying out loud. Next you'll be linking to 4chan...

Go fucking get a clue.

I take it eloquence isn't your forte. Odd as it may seem, inserting various forms of fuck in every other sentence doesn't make your argument any stronger.

Aye, the OP especially is great. I'll probably scoop those up once released.
Nikran:
Battler the dumbest protagonist? No way. Shirou from fate/stay night is the only one worthy of such a discription. The most Galacticly stupid person ever.
Battler could prolly count up to 10. Shirou would be like "10? whats that? Can you eat it?"

You make a good point here. Every person on the island was basically already trying to undermine each other to be the next head of the family and the next inline to receive all the riches. If people are dying off that just brings them one step closer to obtaining the gold. They might not have had the balls to kill people to get to the riches, but they don't seem too unhappy that someone is starting to kill people. Also, the little scroll thingy that they read clearly states that once someone discovers the gold, everything will be returned to them, I'm assuming this means the dead will come back as well, but I could be wrong.
@Nikran: Shirou stupid? please. He's the most selfless character of any anime in existence. I would suggest you play the VN to fully understand him as he does come off stupid and stubborn in the anime, but if you didn't care for the anime then the VN is already fail to you.

From what you're typing, you really haven't played Fate/Stay Night game, did you? In the anime, he is somewhat pathetic during couple of episodes .. probably the first 6 or 7 episodes and then he gets his shape up. Unfortunality, you don't even know who Shirou really is, what he did and whatever his abouts are. Why don't you play the visual game and give it a try? At least through FATE arc.
The stupidest character would be that retarded fucking kid in Claymore that follows that chick. Whatever his name is, he pisses me off so much. Shirou owns him, and for the record ... Shirou plays such a big role, not just a main lead, but also as one of the most powerful characters in F/SN in completely two different appearances. Those who played the game know what I'm talking about. =]
Edit -- I think my blood pressure just went up. Ane was telling me "What if they made an anime for Shirou vs. Archer?" ... That's one of the best fights, ever.
