So I just finished first episode... And I'm disappointed.
I heard a lot of good things about it, and I enjoyed Higurashi, so I went in with high expectations, only to be seriously let down. I don't really care about any of the characters, writing is poor and direction uneven. Character designs might look good in concept, but(poorly) animated they look ugly. Some parts were so bad that they became good again... When Natsuhi went to cry in the corner I just burst out laughing. And even when the loli got bitchslapped I didn't really care. (oh, and question to the people who played the game: does her retarded manner of speech has something to do with seagulls?)
On the other hand, OP and ED are kinda nice, and I sure wouldn't mind watching most of the characters die horribly.
My question is, to the people who played the visual novels: Is anime a good adaptation, and I just don't get it, or did the good points get lost in translation? Or maybe it's supposed to suck at the beginning only to get better later?

Hmm... that's too bad. I had really been hoping that this would be a good one, because I liked Higurashi a lot and the concept sounded pretty interesting.

Hopefully, any of the parts that can improve will over the course of the next episode or two, but things like bad animation aren't really going to change.

Is CoalGG the only group subbing this right now, btw? Even with a bad review, I still want to at least check it out for myself, but I also want to wait until I have a good idea of who is going to be working on it...

This is my first Higurashi anime I'm watching so I didn't had any expectations. I liked it, and I think it could get better in the next episode... especially when she comes at the ending^^

Battler looks much like Phoenix Wright to me.

.........shit. I was hoping that this would match Higurashi; Would have been very well entertained if this had been the case. But i suppose we can't say it's a failure until we get into the full swing of the storyline. Frist eps are a major hit or miss imo when it comes to animes and i'll continue to hope that this series will become something great despite a weak start.

The first episode went at a quite fast pace. The visual novel had hours of character & setting introductions, so don't expect to get familiar with 18 characters in ~20 minutes.
The plot hasn't really started yet, so can't say much about the adaptation.

I personally liked Umineko visual novels more than the Higurashi anime, so I wouldn't recommend anyone to drop it after the first ep.

Problem is, if the rest of the anime is going to be as much of a trainwreck as first episode, then I'll have a hard time taking the games seriously later, no matter how good they might be.

She's fine until she starts with the 'uuuu's and 'aaaa's. If I wanted to hear little girls going 'uuu' and 'aaa', I'd go watch hentai.

Agreed, Oh how i couldn't wait for her to get hit. But that only increased the amount of uuuu's she spurted out! No satisfaction was to be had after that point :[

Still I will continue to hope this series will improve, i mean its only been the first ep thus far, I can't condemn it just yet

Well, you could always play the game or read the manga (as it comes out) if you don't like the anime.

well I too hated parts when that little girl always had her 'huuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~'.. It almost raped my brains!
Also during that catfight I had to mute my computer, because I just couldnt stand that 'huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~ haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a~' voices!
Mindrape I must say is this anime. nipah~ would have been better. But I think they wanted a little change for it. :S
Also I would have wanted that main char wouldnt be so dam pervert jerk.. :S
But overall this really has been waiting longs, and as everyone says: It was only the first ep of whole serie..

Only thing what I hope for this serie, is that it wont get licensed by FUNi. :S Then I would be enough happy.
