Right, because starting your post with "call me an idiot right now" doesn't suggest at all that you don't give a damn about what they might want to say if they disagree with you.

One thing is clear; this anime has a lot to live up to, and from the restless fans, it doesn't look like it's suceeding. I'll wait to see whole effect of the series before I judge it.

Done yet? Good.

I had no idea this was the next season of Higurashi. No wonder there's been so much talk of it intertwined with everything. How was I supposed to know? With a name like Umineko no Naku Koro ni... I sure in hell don't see "Higurashi" in that. I'm so pissed now. I never would've started watching this if I had known. Sorry, but watching the same event over and over with different viewpoints is stupid and repetitive as hell. The ONLY way it can work is if there's two viewpoints in total. One from the main guy... and one from the killer. That's it! Every other viewpoint is shit.

I'm going to drop this series once it starts to repeat and I'll judge the series based off that. I refuse to watch more than that.
(click to show/hide)I'm only interested in knowing if Beatrice is real or not, and if she's the killer.

I dunno why u think there will be repeats. I mean sure there could be, but im not aware of that being the case atm. Besides Higurashi's repeats served a purpose (aside from letting all the chars die lots of times which was amusing) and the repeats represented a major plot element. I don't think thats gonna be the case with Umineko........but again could be proven wrong by next ep or two.

Also there was plenty of clues that this was related to Higurashi - such as Anidb having Higurashi in the 'Relations' bit on Umineko's page. Also the names of both animes are only diffrent by 1 word; Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni/Umineko no Naku Koro Ni

That had to do with me not realizing it was Higurashi. I was calling myself an idiot. It had nothing to do with anyone else's opinions about the series.

Why wouldn't it repeat? The others did. And according to the desciption, the series takes place over a period of 2 days. We're already on the second day! So it's either going to be a very short series, or it's going to start repeating.

As for the clues, I went into the series blind. I didn't look it up before I started watching it.

This isn't the "next season" of Higurashi, unless I've missed a memo somewhere; it's based on different VN setting entirely. That said, the link should be obvious; even if you don't speak a single word of Japanese, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is fairly similar to Umineko no Naku Koro Ni.

It's a shame that you feel that way, because that device was one of the strong points of Higurashi (especially seeing as the main intrigue was asinine and deeply disappointing).

--- Quote from: queenmetroid on July 09, 2009, 07:38:33 PM ---I went and watched this after seeing this thread, and I have to say that I think this could be a decent series. The premise is good, and even though you can see what's coming a mile away, this might turn out all right. I'm not really getting the same Higurashi vibe, but perhaps it will get better as it goes on. Hopefull I'll develop some empathy for the characters.

This is about as cliché as it can get (I guess we're missing the landed English gentry, but really); the whole show is, so far, essentially a mire of old mystery devices, with a few nods to the occult. Even a fan of said mysteries would surely balk at this.

I admire your strength of will, if not your obvious lack of sanity  :D
