Guess I misunderstood you then, sorry about that.
Anyway, did you even see Higurashi? Because from what you're saying it seems like you didn't ??? And it's not on your MAL.

Heh, no problem.

I've seen some, but not all. I think I stopped after the second "restart" of the first season. The concept itself of repetition turned me off. It's no different than someone who has flashbacks to the same event. I get pissed after about the second time I see it.

Nothing has really happened up to this point that I'd want to see repeated. Wow... people arguing, a girl whining and a total perv of a main character. Oh yes, I really want to watch that again :P I can't even say that I like any of the cute girls... which is a first. They're all cookie-cutter characters... nothing new at all.

Because that's not like every other anime I've seen. Not at all.

What I meant was, if it doesn't repeat... there's still hope that the characters will gain some personality and will grow on me. That won't happen if I see them do the same damn things over and over.

Okay, that's so much wrong with that that I don't even know where to start.

if you don't like the repititions of Higurashi i'd suggest you never watch 2nd season of suzumiya haruhi cuz 'endless eight' is 1000x worse then what higurashi did =P

Edit: 2nd reset of higurashi is only ep 8. you didn't watch even half of it. Bit harsh to judge higurashi before you even understood the whole plot don't u think so? =P

Well, my point was that in EVERY SINGLE anime I've seen, there's always certain things that pan out. Most of them tend to be character stereotypes (There's ALWAYS a perv guy and a clueless girl) and situations (There's ALWAYS a swimsuit/beach/pool episode). That's why I can afford to wait, and besides, I like the concept of people getting killed off.

--- Quote from: dbml on July 09, 2009, 08:37:39 PM ---I know it sounds like a great way to do a series, but repetitiveness is just something I can't stand. Even if it is altered slightly each time... that's not enough.

Higurashi didn't really repeat events as such though; with the change in perspectives and choices, whole new scenarios unfolded. The things that didn't change were hints as to what was really going on behind the scenes, while the arcs provided in depth details about the cast; in an "uniform" timeline, this information could never have been presented; this approach actually has an advantage over traditional VN ports, since, by virtue of a single timeline, you lose a lot of information (see FSN for one of the better known examples).

I'll concede that it's not "repetition", but it's the easiest way to describe what is happening. I was never a fan of those books that gave options as you went through it, whatever they're called. I'm the same with anime.

I'll make an analogy to Breath of Fire V. In that, you only had a certain number of "steps" (what I call it I guess) you could make before the counter reached 100... and then it was game over and you had to restart... but you keep your status and get all your equipment back when you start over again. And you can take a different path the next time. And you have to do it over and over and over until you're strong enough to beat it without having to restart. That is the most monotonous and boring concept I have ever dealt with. The anime falls to the same problem for me. I don't want to have to wade through all the resets to figure out what is going on. It starts to get really dull.

Watching it happen twice was more than enough for me to realize it wasn't working for me. And if Haruhi does the same thing, I'll be skipping that block of episodes :P

That's a load of bull. You must only watch a very select genre of anime if you always see those things. I sure don't. As for people getting killed off, I like that concept too... when someone dies once. Not when they get resurrected again and again just to get killed off in a different horrifying manner. I call that boring.
