Ponyo on a cliff by the sea

I've only seen Nausicca, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Mononoke, but all of those were considerably better than Ponyo. Maybe it's because the other movies I've seen weren't his kid movies, and Ponyo just went under my head.

The visuals were incredible as usual, but the story was downright boring. The characters fell flat at times too. Disney's original adaptation of The Little Mermaid is far superior.

You just listed almost all the great ones. Compare to poco rosso maybe...

But this one I hear is a weird one. Same as Tales of Earth and Sea.

All of the Disney-released Miyazaki movie dubs have Hollywood stars as VAs, because Disney has the money to pay for them. Although as discussed in the recent "English Dubs" thread, film/on-camera acting talent doesn't necessarily translate into voice acting talent.

Without posting it, that was what I was thinking about when I posted, the money, that is. Well, they must have some sort of talent for voice acting since they were casted for Miyazaki's Ponyo. They wouldn't just cast them for their names, I hope.

Mele:
The dub was actually pretty well done. Liam Neeson in particular was great. However, Ponyo was annoying as fuck and for the majority of the movie I just wanted her to shut the hell up. The dub of the ending theme was absolutely awful as well.

Also, this article is actually very insightful and accurate:

I watched the Japanese version and I liked it a lot.

I love the visuals and it was cute as hell.  Really great for a younger audience.

I will agree the story and characters were kind of shallow, but I wasn't really expecting Mononoke or Spirited Away kind of depth.
