So, another season, another SHAFT series (2 actually) headed by Akiyuki Shinbo. What do you think? Whose subs will you be following? (see http://www.fansubwiki.com/)

From what I saw in the promo vid, it looks pretty interesting, though according to the fansubs doing it, it'll be fairly typical of SHAFT-Shinbo works (i.e. text all over the place, unusual camera angles and so on). Coming off Natsu no Arashi (which was GREAT), this should be a welcome replacement.

So why is this a "Shaft" series? Are you referencing to the man who don't take no shit from any man?

How is it like Shaft? When I went to the official page all I saw was a full screen loli-upskirt-cameltoe. Is that what Shaft was all about?

Please don't tell me you're really confusing movie Shaft with studio Shaft
Back on topic: It's pretty obvious that all of Shinbo's work will share his trademark moves, but it's not like it's a bad thing. I have pretty big hopes for Bakemonogatari, especially after just finishing Nanoha. If he can keep his trademark "humor" to minimum, and actually deliver a serious story, I'll be delighted. I heard that this show actually has decent budget, so we should have less cutting corners in animation then usual.
As for subs, dunno. I'll get the ones that'll come out first to get my fix, then see what are the alternatives.

Sorry :/ I wasn't trolling. I'm not knowledgable about production companies. One-Bad-Motha'Fucker-Shaft is the only one I knew. Now some posts on some other sites make a lot more sense

Also I think I'll be following Frostii's subs if I like the show. I'm already following a lot of their other stuff and they always do high quality work.

Yep, the mentor or whatever he is to SLJ in the movie was the shaft in the series, iirc.

Get your facts straight, the 1971 movie was the original Shaft, followed by

Just watched the raw of episode 1. Despite not knowing what the hell was going on, it looks interesting. And yes, massive amounts of random text everywhere! The OP was rather misleading though. It was the bloodiest opening I'd seen since... I dunno. Yet the first episode was pretty much devoid of action (and therefore bloodshed) $:-\$ I'll probably give it a chance when it's fully released... don't think I could handle watching this once a week. Way too slow.

Not so random. At least in the beginning, when the onscreen text tells the whole prequel story of what happened to the protagonist prior to the events of the anime, with becoming a vampire for a bit and then human again and whatnot.
Also, if someone is wondering if there's really that much text, frostii has "4-5" typesetters working on Bakemonogatari.

It did sort of resemble a timeline now that you mention it, but I couldn't get anything from it. So it was still random to me without having subs

II-subs with qq released their subs. Took them long enough, but they're excused. Downloading it now, and so should you. Unless, of course you want to wait for frostii, but it'll probably take them next 3 weeks to release.
Also, there's a anon version floating around, but I would stay away from that.

...I don't really know what to say, go watch it. It's pretty awesome, unless you dislike SHAFT's signature style.

QFT. The presentation probably won't surprise anyone (SHAFT and Shinbo), but it works great here. I'm very pleased with the art, with the exception of the CGI (which'll hopefully be kept to a minimum). The actual plot will need time to develop, but so far things look promising, with an intriguing cast and (more importantly) dialogue that works. It's brisk without being forced, with a flow that allows for the humour to shine through without becoming too cliché or corny. Pending the next episode, I may be forced to reassess my rankings for this season....

In terms of sheer spectacle, I believe Shinbo has reached a new high with this artistic direction. Also, stationary arsenal? Heck yeah.

I'm in love with this. There are a few cheesy moments in the dialogue, and there are perhaps a touch too many shifts, but damn me if it isn't awesome. Senjōgahara is tsundere, and being able to bask in that without the accompanying moeblobs makes me sad that the episodes aren't longer. On an unrelated note, I'll never look at a stapler the same way...
