God damn, the blu-ray version of this show is fucking incredible.  All we need now is for someone to convince SHAFT to finish their fucking work before airing.  I really hope they do the rest of this series.

And it was an even more incredible ratio booster when it first popped up. :)

Just marathoned this, bloody awesome!

Also yeah, as mentioned in earlier posts, I had the initial feeling that those colour slides were in there to play on viewer emotion, as well as another way to portray the feel of a scene, for lack of a better way to describe it than has already been done. Red and earths = warm, blues and monotones = cold, basics of what I can remember. An average person wouldn't need to know this, in order to feel it.

Noticed some similarities to old/indie films with those text cutscenes, I have a feeling they were really there to add artistic effect, even if it was influenced by lack of funds; it seemed a good way to deal with it, I didn't personally see it detracting from my enjoyment.

...neither did it stop me from pausing like a madman just to read through.  *whistle*

Who knows? Perhaps some text scenes or colour scenes were there entirely to troll us subtly? In which case, HA. It has certainly opened debate, which turns to publicity.

Of course, these are just my opinions, not used to these forums (or any at all). D: Usually read through posts here while I watch anime, because you guys make me laugh. Might make it a point to mark out which ones. =)

Looking forward to Kizumonogatari, although it's no Senjougahara fix...

New version of Bakemonogatari from Coalgirls featuring 10-bit. Be sure to download the new CCCP-BETA version to take advantage of this 10-bit feature.

This is part 2 of the 3 part 10-bit experiment. As before, nothing is missing from this. If something seems to be missing, it was missing on the BD.

Fixes follow

    Re-encoded from BDMV to 10-bit crf (600 MB/episode saved)
Attempted to fix the banding issues prevalent in the first release.
    Fixed ordered chapter issues
Used ED4 in episode 14 instead of incorrectly linking ED3
Fixed the typo of “eiein” in OP1
Fixed a few scene bleeds I could find. It may not all be corrected, however.
Replaced a Hitagi picture with Tsukihi and Karen because they are the cutest girls in the series. Keep dreaming. Hitagi > All.

What I did not fix is the script. If you did not like it, do not get it.

Enjoy.

Sorry if this question has been posted before (I tried to do a quick search and nothing popped up), but /how/ are you supposed to watch Bakemonogatari?  A friend gave me this anime to watch, warning me that it would be "weird", but enjoyable.  I've made it up to 2:53 of the first episode, but that took a /long/ while (I kept trying to pause to read the...secondary narration?  Internal thoughts?).

Are you meant to catch the random sentences, or to just follow the main character's narration?

You really only get those at the beginning of the episodes, they're not necessary, but I also read them.

I just tried my best to read what I can...

I assumed that that was how the director meant it to be..

I mean you can't pause-read on tv broadcast, and I don't think the Japanese can read that crazy-lightning-fast either.

Japanese don't need fansubs for Japanese dubbed shows :D

Yeah, the flashing text isn't really necessary to enjoy the show, it's nothing particularly important. Mostly just quotes from the book IIRC, so you're not really missing out on too much by not pausing the video every couple of seconds to read it.

It seems to be a fairly popular technique in this kind of Japanese comedy; I remember Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei was just as bad for it too.

I was kinda worried about that at first too but I decided to just keep watching the show. I'm glad. It's now one of my favorite shows of all time. Such great character, great humor, and it looks fuckin' beautiful. AND it got me to read faster. Is it me or does the dialog seem to be pretty fast paced in a lot of this show? Or maybe I've just been distracted by how good it looks....

The first time I watched it a while ago I simply didn't read the text, but once I re-watched it a little bit ago I actually paused and read all the text :3

Shit I'm Watching | Quite frankly, I don't give a fuck.

I've watched bakemonogatari several times, first time was paying close attention to all the text, others I paid less attention to the subs and more to the art.

Of course my understanding of japanese now is a lot better than it was when I first watched bakemonogatari, so I am able to enjoy nisemonogatari a lot more on the first watch throguh. Nise is drop dead awesome btw. Hachikuji & Shinobu ftw...

I just finished watching episode 13, and i have to say, is it just me or this anime is weird? The angle from which the story is told, like: people are talking and yet we get to see a close-up of the eye, or a tree...  and other things, i can't put my finger on it, but something feels weird. Also, what's up with the ultra fast subs at the beginning of every episode?

You haven't watched much SHAFT shows, have you? In particular Shinbou.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

What's Shaft? Also, i've read  a couple comments, and i have to ask this: is this show really a comedy? I thought it was something serious...

SHAFT is the animation studio responsible for Bakemonogatari (as well as all the [upcoming] shows related to it). The visual cues you referred to are trademarks of Akiyuki Shinbou, the studio's main director. A lot of shows from this studio (Maria Holic, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Arakawa under he Bridge, and many more) have that same visual style. It's gotten to a point where you can easily recognize the studio if you see that style being used.

The show is a mix of romance, mystery and supernatural elements, and not really a comedy, even though it has plenty of funny scenes in it.
