Also I think I'll be following Frostii's subs if I like the show. I'm already following a lot of their other stuff and they always do high quality work.

No worries, it made me laugh. :D

--- Quote from: Steve Basnof on July 06, 2009, 07:03:13 PM ---So why is this a "Shaft" series? Are you referencing to the man who don't take no shit from any man?
How is it like Shaft? When I went to the official page all I saw was a full screen loli-upskirt-cameltoe. Is that what Shaft was all about?
Loli-upskirt-Shaft? Apparently there are rotating cover pics so sorry to all you lolis if you don't get your upskirt fix when you load it.

You better be trolling...
Please don't tell me you're really confusing movie Shaft with studio Shaft
Back on topic: It's pretty obvious that all of Shinbo's work will share his trademark moves, but it's not like it's a bad thing. I have pretty big hopes for Bakemonogatari, especially after just finishing Nanoha. If he can keep his trademark "humor" to minimum, and actually deliver a serious story, I'll be delighted. I heard that this show actually has decent budget, so we should have less cutting corners in animation then usual.
As for subs, dunno. I'll get the ones that'll come out first to get my fix, then see what are the alternatives.

Yep, the mentor or whatever he is to SLJ in the movie was the shaft in the series, iirc.
BTT: I think I'll grab Frostii.

Get your facts straight, the 1971 movie was the original Shaft, followed by
--- Quote from: wikipedia ---Two sequels were made: Shaft's Big Score in 1972, and Shaft in Africa in 1973. These were followed by a series of TV movies starring Roundtree as Shaft on CBS during the 1973-1974 TV season.
In 2000, a sequel was made featuring Samuel L. Jackson in the title role. Jackson plays the nephew of Richard Roundtree's character; Roundtree returns as John Shaft, still a private eye, trying to get his nephew to join him.

Also about the TV movies/TV show/whatever:
--- Quote from: http://www.tvparty.com ---'Shaft' the TV series premiered in October of 1973 as part of CBS's 'New Tuesday Night Movies' - a rotating 'wheel' consisting of 'Shaft', 'Hawkins' and the 'Tuesday Night Movie'. The show ran from 9:30-11:00 with Richard Roundtree reprising his role as New York detective John Shaft.
To make the character 'fit' for broadcast, Shaft needed to be toned down. Now he would be working with the man instead of against him. Whenever Shaft was in a jam, he could call on Lt. Al Rossi (Ed Barth) of the police department and he would provide Shaft with the back-up he needed to solve the more complex crimes he was now faced with.
Cries rang up from 'Shaft' fans that Richard Roundtree had sold out, that this new mellow-er Shaft was no Shaft at all. Because of this, the series never found a substantial following and was canceled when the season ended on September 3, 1974.

Someone better release the subs ASAP, since we are getting completely off topic ;D
dbml:
Just watched the raw of episode 1. Despite not knowing what the hell was going on, it looks interesting. And yes, massive amounts of random text everywhere! The OP was rather misleading though. It was the bloodiest opening I'd seen since... I dunno. Yet the first episode was pretty much devoid of action (and therefore bloodshed) :-\ I'll probably give it a chance when it's fully released... don't think I could handle watching this once a week. Way too slow.
