What's with some of you?
I thought the best part about any other visual novel would be the story.

Nope. It's the HCG.

Then download the HCG packs for it, smaller and more time efficient.

What if the visual novel in question isn't an eroge?

I don't mind the eroge, and if it doesn't have any (Clannad, for example) I'm fine with it. I want "full" content that was ever implemented within a game. You always see PC games with eroge, then you see a year or two later another version coming out with extra content without the eroge. I like having it all, if you get what I'm saying. The one I'm displeased with is Tomoyo After, having the eroge on PC, then all they remove it all and implement 50% more content instead for the PS2, and PSP versions and now the PC version is going to have everything plus Tomoya's voice but without the eroge. Kinda lame ...

Exactly, why not simply add an option, erotic scenes: on / off. That way they can keep all the old content as well.

Very nice idea. I didn't think about that. How come KEY stopped making eroge games for PC anyways? Tomoyo's nude body is extremely hot.

You sure do spend a lot of time on this one. I've yet to get started.  ;D
The long total play time is intimidating.

Tomoyo After? It's rather short but ... but =[ ... very, very sad.

Eroge is portmanteau and refers to the software itself, not the specific pornographic content. Thus, you can't really have a game "without the eroge". I never played KgNE, so I might give the new edition a try at some point, but VNs take so much time, and with both Clannad FV and Kanon to complete, well... :'(

Might wanna put KgNE in the back then, but ... if you want some strong cliffhangers ... Yea, KgNE is the way as if you seen the anime, the visual novel is about 10 x heavier, more content to fill, and to keep you dragged until you finish it.

I've always thought about trying a VN.  I personally want to try Chaos; Head (hoping the VN does a better job with the ending), however the version that I have doesn't work :(

I recommend Chaos;Head took me a while to get it working too.  Vista didn't like the installer the patch uses.  Then again the patch itself isn't entirely complete cause the group translating it dropped it.

I heard Chaos;Head visual novel is better than the anime, much better. Is it translated?

Well, its as close as it gets to being completed, and it works fine for me.
