Template-making... service?
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:45:27 PM »
Alright, this is going to be even easier to understand than the previous description-making requests ;)
Essentially, I have about 3 weeks left to the start of an awesome and busy semester, and a little time to spare in the meanwhile. The templates page is looking decidedly bare, so I'm going to add a few more templates. Making new templates from scratch requires inspiration which I don't happen to have at the moment, and I cba to flip through the browse page looking for templates to add. So you guys are going to do the work for me instead.

1) Post the URL of a torrent description that you like, make sure it's not a variation of one of the templates that are already up.
2) I'll pick 3 (or 5 if I'm feeling generous), and make them into templates. No voting involved. Description-owners will be PMed before their descriptions are templatised (they may opt out if they wish).
3) Wait for site update.
4) Possible profit.

I'll lock the thread when I feel there's enough posts, since I'm not going to keep a backlog of work. Whenever I feel like doing this again I'll open a new thread.

Start posting :)

Me first! *bounce*

Okay, I don't think this one is a variation of the vanilla templates we have here. This one has two images, which are not part of the screenshots, and one of them has a shadow to the left. Plus the information is to one side and is not justify left or right but center! There's also a blue border around the thumbnails and I just clicked on it and it's like clicking on a link and opening a new tab (I know how to use the code for that; those thumbnails are obviously not using the screenshot BB code). This is the second time I see this particular code used for an artbook but I think it could be used for anything.

Isn't that just a standard template with an image slapped over the text?

I'm not sure, but a good artbook template would be nice to have.

Without looking at its source, I like the template in use here, which was originally used for anime.  I don't remember offhand who made it, but it was one of the regulars.

Tssk... And I thought Odyseas created it for his Osamu Tezuka torrent?
I completely overlooked the build-in screenshot feature at first... ;)

Personally I like Dragon80's recent descriptions (like this one), but if I'm not mistaken this one involves some Photoshop work for the background/anime image part), so not very practical.

Also: I very much fancy Dille's recent manga templates, see here, so if she agrees with it, it would be a nice upgrade from her previous template.

I personally like my new Toradora description :3

But it needs lots of complex working.

I think an Artbook template would be nice too. I asked Phaedris for his/her code to use in my Negipa! torrent.

I also think Dragon80's newest template is good, but I have the feeling that he would want to leave it for his own uploads.

Peebs: Phaedris uses that template for all his/her torrents :P

@Southrop: Yeah, they made another artbook offer today. I really like it and I think it'd look good for an artbook template.

@Finalizer: It's not just that. There's the shadow effect on the image which I don't know how to do. It's not really the same as the others in the templates section. It does have its own differences. Different is good.

Here is the Background Picture & the HTML code. If anyone wants to better this idea. Please do so & good luck. this temp was based off of kureshii RideBack. There might be some extra code in there for no reason at all.

@Dragon, take a look at this:
(click to show/hide)
I would suggest using a width of 940px and whenever you create your backgrounds, make them 940x720. (your current ones are 900x720).
(click to show/hide)
This way you can avoid the "glitch" above.^^ (just something small, not very significant)

Yeah, I stole borrowed it from Odyseas. I used it for Digital Juice as well.

I would like to see xchiamiov's OST Description Generator, which was supposed to come out similar to my Kimagure Road OST torrent. It was based on Rorando's torrent, which, at least for me, isn't showing the way it used to. I'd like to see a fresh example of it because it looked really sharp.

The description generator has reached a relatively stable stage; the next big thing is building a GUI for it, for those who aren't accustomed to dealing with the command line.

It's actually built using a flexible templating system, so that you can choose a different template to use at runtime.  Rorando's is just the only one I've included so far.  My goal is to include several of the templates listed here and in the official list, although it's limited to those that can be applied to OSTs, of course.

thanks ailailou i will fix the size on that... i was playing around today for a couple hours and came up with this on. It only works on IE7 so far. "not the best code maker here" Couldn't get it to work with firefox. Anyway here is the code i came up with & it was a ball breaker for someone that doesn't know a crap about css & html code. If anyone can get this working it would be great. I would like to see this get some upload time on the box. Thanks for checking & hopefully someone can get it to work.

Template can hold 10 pop-up screenshots in it along with 14 cover Related Material links. Got it working & will be in uses soon.

Here is a sample picture:

@Dragon80: I like that! I specially like how the screenshots are lined up. The related torrent images are squished and that just ruins the whole dynamics of the layout but oh well. One question, though. What happens to the related torrents with no images? Is it gonna show a grey rectangle as a place holder?

I guess i will have to make a no image available picture. That was my first try at making this temp. i think i might have it almost 100% done.

Here is a sample picture:
maybe my standards are to high when it comes to descriptions but i kind of fail to see the improvement over the normal currently available template (from a design and usability pov).
i'm guessing that the screenshots don't use the lightbox, how are they displayed? if they are just opened it would be a step back canceling out improvements by the related section.
the related links with pictures are ok, but i doubt the template is grabbing the images for the links by itself (or does it?) resulting in more work and a minimal gain if at all (as they aren't really telling you anything about what is behind the link, and extensive information like "group, source, resolution, title, category, etc. can't be added due to space constrains).

Not the best coder in the world, But not bad for my first complete template. This templete will use up to 10 pop-up screenshots in it along with 14 cover related material links. The screenshots will have a pop-up mouse over effect as you can see in sample picture number 2. The related links will have a fade effect & when highlighted it will be in full color. The info links at the top will be black & change that ugly green when clicked.

Q) i'm guessing that the screenshots don't use the lightbox, how are they displayed?
A) i have no clue what i lightbox is... so i would have to say i don't really know. The screenshots will pop up to the left of the image in fullsize.

Q) if they are just opened it would be a step back canceling out improvements by the related section.
A) once you move your mouse off off the small/enlarged screenshot it will go away

Q) the related links with pictures are ok, but i doubt the template is grabbing the images for the links by itself (or does it?) resulting in more work and a minimal gain if at all (as they aren't really telling you anything about what is behind the link, and extensive information like "group, source, resolution, title, category, etc. can't be added due to space constrains).
A) you have to put the link in yourself for all the screens. The code will resize the picture & thats about it. The source info can be put in so a little pop-up box shows up when the mouse is over the image.

I hope this will help you with some of the question you had... But i don't know a thing when it comes to this type of thing.... i was just winging it.

ah ok, if it works like advertised it will really be a nifty template.
is there an already working version to test out?
one last question: will the screenshots use more space when there are only three or less related links? it would be quite a screen waste if the space isn't used, and normally the related section only contains 2-5 links.

Just finished a a working temp. I check it in IE, FireFox & Chrome. All seems to be in working order. The screenshots are mouseover pop-ups to full image size & the links are mouseover high lights. The links are click able poster icons with a little bit of info below them.

here is a link if you would like to see it in action

Q: will the screenshots use more space when there are only three or less related links? it would be quite a screen waste if the space isn't used, and normally the related section only contains 2-5 links.

A: it will just be a waste of space. But you can alway resize the link to make them more spaced out.
