Final Fantasy Advent Children Bluray
« on: July 08, 2009, 12:25:07 AM »
I gotta say it's the most beautiful looking video I've ever seen in my life.  Absolutely stunning.  Maybe it's cuz I didn't play the video game, but I found the movie to be a steaming pile of crap that made zero sense.

I own it on Blu-ray. Tho' the disc I have is from Japan with FF XIII demo. ;] Yes, it does have English subtitles and voices.

Final fantasy VII (7) is the best game in world it is really hard to capture its excellence in a movie.

aggreed, too bad they changed the script 2 weeks before release and left Aerith (officially) unressurectable.

Most influential Japanese game, certainly. Best? A matter of opinion, and really, there are other candidates among the JRPGs alone that would give FF VII a run for the title.

You really need to have played the game (or at least be aware of the general plot) to appreciate the movie, as otherwise it's little more than a glorified actionfest (not that understanding the story makes it much better, but it's something). The few nice touches (such as the ringtone on Tifa's cell, or the bands the cast carry) aren't enough to elevate this beyond mediocracy, at best.

Yea, the game and the blu-ray movie only costed me 60 dollars, and 15 dollars to ship it here. So no, it didn't cost me hundreds of dollars.

l wonder if they will keep to PS3, they can now easily go to PCs as well, like with FFXIV MMO being exlusively for PS3 and PC, but l think that eventually they will go to xBox later like with FFXI, even so, l think FFXIII could be ported easily to PCs, the Franshiese is too famous now to leave it only to USA and Asia, they totally ignore Euro with most of their titles wich is pissing me off.

l think that if you play FF7 on the PC (PSX version sux bad, way to easy mobs :P) and do every quest, you will find it that modern games LACK in storyline due to being extremely well made visually.
OFC Square -Enix is no exception tough their games still have a lot of story to tell, but tbh, l rarely find myself in position to enjoy long games since they are good looking but really are shorter than old times.

l think the longest FF game is FF6 (FF3 in US) and second is FF7, but if you compare, visualy and storywise, alongside with combat system and limit breaks FF7 is the best RPG ever made, l also enjoyed FF8 but l played FF7 like 20 times, l know every quest, every item, every materia, every summon, every mob, every skill, how and where, and if my PC wasn't "too fast" l'd stil be playing that game (l really can't the game crashes cuz it can't handle the hardware anymore, l consulted Square-Enix about that matter too, nothing can be done)

Seconded!

Probably the most amazing movie I've ever seen and also within my top 3 favorite games. When this movie first came out on dvd in America I got it the first day and watched it at least twice a day for nearly a year straight. When we got the 1080p Complete edition on BakaBT I almost had a heart attack and watched that like 10 times in the first week, lol. I haven't had a chance to buy the actual Blu-Ray dvd yet but I will sometime!

Yup, if you watch the movie before playing the game, then your judgment based on what you've seen is pretty much disqualified. Play the game, then watch the movie. Otherwise, don't say anything. FF VII is not a legacy for no reason, and the game already surpassed 10 million units in sales to date. It's the #1 FF title so far to manage to get that much revenue and sales to Square.

I found the extra content in the BD version made it harder to follow. I think the original dvd release was better at the story. the BD just looks better.

It's not Kotonoha....it's Rika from Higurashi no naku koro ni. She's stabbing herself in the neck with the knife pressed up against the wall.

After playing Final Fantasy VII many many times, I still never understood the story of it. The only thing I really liked about the movie was the fight with Tifa in the church. The music was so....different, but it fit so well somehow, and Tifa of course was freaking awesome. Everything else was just meh. I thought my friend would enjoy it because of all the action, but he just fell asleep a few minutes into it.

I watched the dvd when it first came out and thouroghly enjoyed it.  I've never played the game (started it a few times on the pc, but i really don't like playing with a keyboard), but I guess I know enough about the legacy and characters to understand it well enough.  Yeah obviously not an incredible story, but certainly a lot of fun, and visually stunning

i just watched this last night believe it or not, and here are my feelings about it.

The visuals were beautiful.  Some of the best animation I have seen.  It was very fluid and you could see every strike and move the character makes.  Very skillfully done.

The story-line is kinda Meh.  If you don't know about FF 7 then it is pretty tough to follow along.  Even knowing a decent bit about the game I still couldn't follow why they did certain things.

Music and Voices, spot on. and well done.

Well worth the watch, but probably will not watch it again.  One of those that you need to see just to say you saw it.
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

Final Fantasy: AC is a visual masterpiece... but as a movie is pretty pathetic. The story is about as lame as it gets. The only redeeming qualities it has is Tifa (both for her hotness factor and her awesomely choreographed fight scenes) and for finally having a voice put to Aeris. I started to tear up the first time through when I saw her speak... made me think back to the game... *sniff*

i thought i might get flamed to death for starting this thread.  glad to see i'm not the only one.  i mean it's nice they made a movie for die hard final fantasy fans, but you got to make it enjoyable for those who haven't played the game too.  i don't know anything about Star Trek, but I absolutely loved the new Star Trek movie.  It was made for the masses, but had some things to satisfy the hardcore fans too.  So everyone's happy.  Advent Children should have a warning label on the cover saying you won't like this at all if you haven't played the game.
