It was made for the masses, but had some things to satisfy the hardcore fans too. So everyone's happy. Advent Children should have a warning label on the cover saying you won't like this at all if you haven't played the game.

Maybe it's because I played the game before watching the movie, but I don't feel that should be necessary. I mean, by all means, watch the movie, but don't complain and say it was a confusing storyline. I kind of hate it when people say that because it sets Advent Children in a bad light just because you choose to watch a movie you didn't know the prequel to just because it looked "awesome". If it was too "service-like and holding hands through the movie" then I'm sure the fans would've been pretty mad about that seeing as it's one of the greatest games ever created. And they'd be like "we already know that dammit, fuck, this is like a recap". The ones wanting to see a follow-up was the fans, other people was just "hey, this looks good, let's rent this". I also think Blockbuster is the one to both thank/blame for introducing Advent Children, I mean, that's how I think most people saw AC.
But hey I watched End of Evangelion 2 years ago without seeing the series too, and haven't done that yet. So yeah, I do dumb stuff too. Though I was 16-18 years back then and stupid O.o

i think it's a crap movie. i know nothing about star trek and loved the new star trek movie. why? cuz it was well made. it's fun for everyone. the story wasn't told through obscure star trek references only die hards would get leaving most viewers scratching their heads.

Your answer here intrigues me, but I must ask if you have talked to any die-hard Star Trek fans to find out if they feel they got what they deserved. I don't know anything about Star Trek nor do I have any interest in it, but with most of these cult following productions (including Final Fantasy VII) you either please the audience as a whole, or please the uber fans. It's pretty darn hard to do both in just a few hours worth of movie.

I've never played a final fantasy game since FFIII, and I pretty much was able to figure out what was going on. Maybe pay a little more attention to the story and less to the beautiful animation (really beautiful btw).
It was a good watch. Not the greatest movie of all time but enough to pay $25 (oh no) for it.
